~Hello~
I hope this finds you safe and well.

*PLEASE NOTE: there will be NO
meditation, yoga OR meditation & coaching group THIS WEEK*

When the heart breaks it only gets bigger & stronger, when tended to and allowed.

And there’s been so much heartbreak these past weeks, months, years, lifetimes, and lifetimes before that.

Today, my bigger & stronger heart is filled with tremendous gratitude to Natasha Freeman, owner of Lucid Living, who has opened her beautiful and sacred space to me, once again, to continue my work. Thank you, Natasha 😘

When meeting in-person was still a thing we did, Lucid Living was where I taught my Monday night donation-based meditation and where I taught one of my weekly yoga classes.

Sitting in this space this week, to support my life coaching clients by helping them recognize and work with the unconscious ways they are showing up in and shaping their very lives, was a precious gift. A gift that is not lost on me.

This space exists to heal. This space exists to nurture and nourish. In this space, Consciousness is expanding.

Undoing Unconscious Racism
Workshop Series & Racial Affinity Group Work

So many of you have expressed similar feelings and experiences as white people seeing and wrestling with racial injustice, inequity, and how to best show up in this work.

I feel grateful that I am in a place to be able to support you all in this critically important work of uncovering and working with unconscious (or conscious) bias and conditioning that is based in white supremacy ideology. Not one of us is free of it, though we all sit somewhere on a spectrum of varying degrees.

Undoing Unconscious Racism is a by-donation virtual workshop series and will include these components:
  • Group workshop #1 (Saturday, July 18, 9-10:30am)

    • Understanding unconscious thinking (and unconscious bias)

    • I am racist vs I am A racist

    • Importance of being guided/led by BIPOC

    • Ruth King’s framework / Mindfulness

    • Divide into Racial Affinity groups (5-6 people per group)

  • Racial Affinity Groups (meet 2x/month)

    • Self-guided / self-scheduled

  • Group meeting #2 (Saturday, August 22, 9am-10am)

    • Check-in / Group Coaching

  • Group meeting #3 (Saturday, October 17, 9am-10am)

    • Check-in / Group Coaching

    • Resources for taking action - how to move from here

My intention is not to profit off of this work so I am accepting sliding-scale donations for this workshop series; 100% of donations will be funneled to organizations supporting anti-racist work locally and nationally (recipients are TBD; the last group raised $3000 and supported Peter Paul Development Center, Duron Chavis's local food justice work in Richmond, VA and the National Black Food and Justice Alliance). Donations of any amount will be accepted from $5-$250 - please pay what you are able and willing to invest in this work (for yourself and for the movement, in general).

Requirements for participation:
- purchase and read Ruth King's Mindful of Race (I've heard that copies are hard to find right now - I encourage you to order from one of these independent, black-owned shops.) This does not have to be read in its entirety prior to the workshop.

- commit to the 3 workshop sessions AND to at least 8 months with your Racial Affinity Group - we will discuss the importance of this during our first workshop (workshops will be held via Zoom)

- be open to the experience

In order to register, please Venmo me @EllieBurkeLife with the amount of your donation and please put "Undoing Unconscious Racism Workshop" in the memo. If you do not use Venmo, you can mail a check to Ellie Burke 203 E. 3rd Street, Richmond VA 23219 - please just email me to let me know that you've sent payment.

Once I receive your donation, I will send you a confirmation email with the Zoom link for our July 18th meeting. Please invite friends and family members. If you have any questions, please email me.
