I have not always valued self-care. In fact, for most teenage and adult life I have devalued it - believed my "can-do" mentality, self-will, intellect, and general emotional fortitude could get me through anything. After a series of life experiences and events over the past 10 years, I began (thankfully) to question those beliefs and began to explore ways to better take care of myself.
Even after I started "getting" the connection between taking care of myself and what that allowed me to do and experience in life, it took some real exploration to discover the "right" forms of self-care specific to me along with when and how to adjust those forms based on what was pulling at me in life. And, now, I teach and coach others about why self-care is critical (not over-exagerating there) to the quality of their lives (in all aspects) and how that directly affects how they show up to the important things in their lives (children, partners, work, self, community, etc.).
Here's a blog post that I wrote about self-care several months ago. And, below are two upcoming ways to begin to explore and choose self-care for yourself. I'd love to see you at one or both events.
, always.

The Annual Spring Yoga & Meditation Retreat
This has easily become one of my most anticipated experiences each year and what I refer to as a "macro" form of self-care. This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in a multi-day retreat entirely intended to replenish you, to fill you up in mind, body, and soul. The effects of attending such a retreat linger throughout the rest of the year.
The retreat includes twice-daily yoga classes, morning and evening meditation, an amazing community of practitioners, and truly nutritious and delicious food prepared in-house by the extraordinary Ayurvedic-inspired Chef, Mary Silcox... all at the one-of-a-kind Heartstone Lodge, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The retreat is almost 1/2 full, so please don't wait to register if you're hoping to attend!
