Some thoughts from my last newsletter, in case you missed it or need a reminder :)
What does it mean to return to our individual and collective humanity?
To me, it means returning to the deep, inherent knowing that all human beings deserve the right to basic, fundamental dignity; to live with the same access to what takes care of our basic needs - shelter, food, clean water, truthful education; to live free from fear of harm.
This requires that we widen our circle of compassion to be fully inclusive. And, from my perspective, that requires we see, repeatedly and consciously, who we place outside of that circle.
While we can certainly support direct action through global organizations, the only place that we can do the direct, actual work is right here and right now - in our immediate lives - with our family members, neighbors, and members of the greater community.
Please take the time to stay with me here...
I hope that you will accept my invitation to join me and a collective of community members who have been working to launch a new art exhibit exploring race and identity through photography, storytelling, and interactive experiences co-curated by founder of The Well Collective, Ashley Williams, and Richmond artist and creative, Ron Stokes.
This event will rely on the engagement and interaction of community members like you. And we hope you will consider joining us in whatever way you can!
Please join us and invite your family, friends, and neighbors.
It is my hope that we can continue to acknowledge individual and collective harm in order to move towards individual and collective healing.
Take good care of yourself and those around you, and continue to lean in.
