"And it's so nice, sitting very still
Without those old shoes I could never fill"
{Jets to Brazil}
*could never fill? Or would never fill? Or should never fill?
Most of us spend our lives striving to be something, someone we’re not.... fitting into shoes that weren’t meant for us. And when the shoes don’t fit, we think there’s something inherently wrong with us - rather than something wrong with the dang shoes we think we we’re supposed to be fitting into....
I once had a client say to me that, as she let go of aspects of her life that weren’t right and began to intentionally bring in the things that were, it felt like she had all of the sudden discovered that she’d been wearing tight, overly narrow shoes for so long and just assumed that’s how all shoes felt, that it wasn’t possible to feel differently in herself and in her life. She didn’t know until she had the space to expand into herself more fully.
If the life you keep living doesn’t fit you, maybe it’s not because you’re “the problem.” Maybe it’s because it’s a life that doesn’t give you the proper space to be you.
Maybe it’s not that you “couldn’t” fill those old shoes but really that you shouldn’t, maybe even that you subconsciously wouldn’t... because they weren’t meant for you.
How is your life feeling? Too big? Not enough space, painfully tight? Clunky, awkward? Too professional or not professional enough?
In order to fin the right fit, start with where you are, get curious about you you feel in your current life, then begin to shift and explore the parts of you that you haven't. Allow yourself to choose something else, to find the things that feel just right. You may be surprised at what you find.

Undoing Unconscious Racism
Workshop Series & Racial Affinity Group Work UPDATES:
The second cohort of this workshop series started this past weekend. This wonderful group of individuals showed up with courage, vulnerability, and a fire to create deep and lasting change in the realm of unconscious racism and with the goal of racial justice. It is such an honor to now have close to 50 people working together in this way.
If you are interested in participating in the 3rd cohort of this workshop series & racial affinity group work, please email me to let me know. Next cohort will begin in the early Fall.
