Practices to support your life
View this email in your browser
Hello, Friends. I hope this finds you well...

One of my more regular "practices" in life is to follow, rather than to attempt to direct, life's unfolding. This isn't passive and it's certainly not easy given the nature of being human. It also doesn't mean I do nothing. I do a lot... but a lot in response to what IS.

As humans, particularly humans conditioned with ideas of individual identities and egos, we become enamored with the idea that we can control this thing called life. We can make the decisions, call the shots, run the show, direct the traffic... you get the idea. And all of that is fine and good when things "go our way." But when they don't, well, then it can run the spectrum from unpleasant to downright terrible because not only is it in conflict with what we want but we suffer because we resist it and try to control it.

When following, there's a constant wakeful attentiveness, a quality of watching, of noticing what's unfolding and then responding... moving toward that which is unfolding with curiosity and openness.

Back in October, I learned that the co-working space where I have been coaching and teaching yoga was preparing to change their room rental policies, making it pretty much impossible for me to continue to serve my clients and students. Once again change and uncertainty were on my perceptual doorstep. And though part of me was deep in moments of panic, habitual stories of "this again??" and feeling like I was ready to tap out of this solo-entrepreneur lifestyle, another more wakeful part was following, with curiosity, the unfolding.

And I'm so incredibly delighted that I followed it right to my NEW SPACE where I will both have my own beautiful office space AND where I will be teaching a weekly yoga class (and offering a couple of NEW things that I'm super excited about - read more below!!). Ashtanga Yoga Richmond has been woven into my life in Richmond over the past 15 years. Ashtanga was my first practice and the one I returned to during one of my most difficult transitions in life. Several people from my own meditation sangha practice and teach at the studio. So, though I will be teaching in the lineage of Ashtanga, it feels completely aligned and right to settle in to my place within the beautiful community that has been cultivated there over the years. I cannot wait for you to join me there in the New Year for so many great things ahead!

Donation-Based Meditation
@ Lucid Living
Mondays, 7:15-8pm

Meditation is a state of being. We practice by sitting down, getting quiet and learning how to harness and direct our attention, waking us up to the full experience of the life again and again. As a result, we begin to actually be IN life, experiencing it fully. Seated practice allows us to learn about ourselves, about these wonderful and wild minds of ours, and about our humanness. Seated practice can provide us with the space to feel a deeper sense of wellbeing, vitality, and groundedness.

Join me for a donation-based meditation practice every Monday evening from 7:15-8pm. The practice will include 35 minutes of guided meditation and 10 minutes for guidance at the end of the sit.

Suggested donation range: $5-$20
New participants will need to complete a waiver and can do so here.

4-Week Series
@ Lucid Living

Tuesdays, 11am-12pm

I'm thrilled to, once again, be offering a 4-week introduction to seated practice!

Join me for 4 hour-long sessions in January to gain a better understanding of what meditation "is" and "isn't," as well as learn how to gradually anchor yourself in the present moment. We will explore meditation in incremental steps with plenty of opportunity for questions and guidance. And we will have the opportunity to discuss some of the most common misconceptions about what is "supposed to happen" during and as a result of your practice.

Seated practice allows us to learn about ourselves, about these wonderful and wild minds of ours, and about our humanness. Seated practice can provide us with the space to feel a deeper sense of wellbeing, vitality, and groundedness.

Early Bird (enroll by 12/31): $80

Weekly Meditation & Life Coaching Group

One of the best parts about moving is that I finally have the space available to offer a weekly meditation & life coaching group! My goal with this new group program to support the continuing work of my many clients over the years as well as to bring a form of coaching work to others from whom 1:1 coaching isn't a feasible option.

This group will combine meditation and life coaching tools along with the support and presence of a group of committed individuals to help guide individuals in personal growth and transformation.

This weekly group will be limited to 8 people and will meet on Thursdays from 11:30am-12:30pm starting on January 9th! Accepted participants will commit to an initial 8-week schedule with the option to continue to each 8-week session onwards.
