okay so maybe that's not exactly how the poem goes, but anyway you're not here for a poem, are you. or maybe you are, in which case excuse me mx but you appear to be lost.

okay enough stalling WHO'S READY TO SEE A BOOK COVER so you can spend the weekend saying I KNOW WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AND YOU DON'T in the annoying singsong voice favored by siblings for centuries to everyone who isn't subscribed to my newsletter and has to wait until monday to see the cover.

doesn't that sound fun??

BEHOLD, A WILD COVER REVEAL

here she is! the cover lovingly designed for me by Elizabeth Jeannel, founder and head editor of Hansen House Books, aka the publisher bringing Edna to you in april 2023.

[cover design for THE REMARKABLE RETIREMENT OF EDNA FISHER by E.M. Anderson. the background is red, with a cutout in the shape of a ball of yarn and knitting needles revealing an image of a distant city silhouetted in the sunset. a dragon hovers over the city, silhouetted against the evening sky with its wings spread. the silhouette of an old woman with a cane in one hand and a sword in the other stands on a hill in the foreground.]

I love the way the overall vibe is like that of a classic fantasy novel like the somewhat horrifying cover of my first copy of The Hobbit. it's perfect because Edna is, y'know, classic-aged herself. and we're having fun with some classic tropes in this book!

but my absolute favorite thing about this cover is Edna silhouetted with her cane and her sword. it really gets at the heart of what makes this book different. plus seeing an old lady holding a sword on the cover of a book is totally baller, yeah?

anyway if you want to read a contemporary fantasy novel with an old lady holding a sword on its cover, add The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher to a tbr, or preorder the hardcover or paperback! more buy links to come.

add Edna on goodreads or storygraph. preorder the hardcover or paperback through Hansen House Books today!
