happy six months to Edna!
hey, folks! if you've been a subscriber for a while, you may notice that my newsletter looks different today. this is because I transitioned from Substack (for a number of reasons) to Buttondown as a newsletter platform. bear with me as I figure out how to use it!

it's Edna's six-month birthday!
happy half birthday to Edna! saturday marked six months since her release. SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN OH MY GOD. I can't talk about all of it, but among other things:
the audiobook was announced, funded, and recorded (still wrapping up so release is tbd, but keep an eye out)
the book made it to over 14,000 goodreads adds, which is so wildly beyond anything I expected
I was invited to two different book club discussions, both of which were delightful
I've had about an event a month, mostly in-person (last one for this year will be in november)
I've received so many lovely messages from readers thanking me for writing the book, which is really the best reaction you can get 🥹
I had a new short story published (read it free online here)
I drafted a new novel (NettieWIP my beloved)
I went on sub with my AMM novel (GroundskeeperWIP my beloved)

recent reads
...still working on In the Lives of Puppets. I'm enjoying it, but october has been a wild month.
read two new-to-me Nero Wolfe books while staying with the parental units this month, which I usually do while staying with them unless there aren't any new ones.
recent watches
finished OMitB season 3, which ended (in my opinion), far stronger than it started, except for Tobert. first of all: Tobert?? why "Tobert," writers. second of all: what is his deal. why is he here. let Mabel be single for a while or something, seriously. although admittedly after what Theo said about Tobert's eyes, I am also here for a queer angle to this (polyamory, anyone?). but until I get one, I'm a bit wtf about Tobert still hanging around.
OFMD season 2, OBVIOUSLY. may I just say after thursday's episodes: DAVID BARTHOLOMEW JENKINS. is bartholomew his middle name? probably not, but I needed a middle name for him because he is in BIG TROUBLE, YOUNG MAN. I am actually loving it, though. even though I am currently devastated and expect to end the season probably even more devastated.
recent birds
not much new at this time of year, although I did see lots of mockers while visiting the 'rents! while we get them back home, I'm always more certain to see them down south.
also saw tons of kinglets—both golden- and ruby-crowned—on campus shortly before heading south (them and me)! I don't usually see ruby-crowned, since they're really only here during migration, and it's always exciting to see either species of these tiny birds.
miscellany
ended up at the Stonewall Block Party while visiting my parents! mom saw them setting up and took us there after dinner friday night. this was my second Pride event ever, and I'm still feeling feelings about it ❤️

until next time!
