don't you hate it when you learn a life lesson
free SFF convention online this weekend, audiobook more widely available
I always say I write character arcs I have yet to undergo, but to be honest, my characters are also a cautionary tale to myself. when they’re lonely and miserable, they self-isolate. then, predictably, they get more lonely and more miserable.
I know that’s the outcome. yet when I’m stressed and miserable and really feeling the rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD), my instinct is to self-isolate.
it’s been a long month for a number of reasons, so that instinct set in again recently. I made dinner plans, figuring that would cheer me up, but that night I was in such a mood that I considered canceling.
but I didn’t. and I had a great time at dinner with my friends. and I’m feeling considerably better, at least for now. doesn’t it suck a little bit to realize, over and over, that connecting with people and caring for yourself really does help?
undoubtedly, I will learn nothing from this experience and start self-isolating again the next time my mental health tanks.
but at least next time, another friend will be ready with a screenshot of a DM I sent them, asking them to please remind me in the future that spending time with friends is Good for My Mental Health, Actually.

recent reads
finally got around to Adam Silvera’s They Both Die at the End, which is the first book in a hot minute to have me like WAIT NO WHAT WHERE’S THE REST at the end
recent birds
may have heard a merlin at work?? I’m also convinced I heard some sort of other raptor back in the woods, but all the app picked up was blue jays (which I do not need help identifying by sound lol)
