Guardian dog helps rescue young burrowing owl in southeast Saskatchewan

A young burrowing owl is recovering after an unusual rescue involving a guardian dog, a fox, and the Wildlife Rescue Society of Saskatchewan. The owl was discovered in southeast Saskatchewan after a landowner noticed his dog had stopped chasing a fox and instead stayed beside what was later identified as a young burrowing owl. Bonnie Dell, executive director with the Wildlife Rescue Society of Saskatchewan, says the rescue was unusual because the dog appeared to play an important role in protecting the bird.
