My fresh thinking today is about seasons. Not the meteorological seasons, that seem to be getting less and less distinct, but seasons or rhythms we personally go through during a year. There is something in the back of my mind that wonders how closely they connect, however. Today the sun is shining and everything suddenly feels infinitely possible.

Welcome to the flurry of newcomers, and of course welcome back to my long-term subscribers and supporters. It turns out getting back into the writing habit has been more of a slog than I’d hoped or expected. Expectation, now there’s a topic for a future issue.

This month I’m facing the reality that on the 27th I’ll have been in my part-time job for a whole year. While I’m very much settled there, and enjoying it, I don’t feel I’ve got the hang of the new cadence for my freelance work. Maybe rediscovering my rhythm for writing to you will help. We’ll see.

It's been a while! 8 months, in fact. What started as a brief hiatus for the summer turned into some soul-searching about what this newsletter is actually for.

The short answer to that is that it is a way to:

• keep in touch

• share what's making me think

• start a conversation about those things

The other part of that soul-searching was around what belongs in a newsletter and if you have a newsletter, what is the function of a blog. As someone with a newsletter and multiple blogs, I'm still mulling this one over!

What I have concluded is to keep that I want to keep this newsletter going, but I'm going to change up the frequency and length - they will now be occasional and short.

I intend to write more on my blog and in these infrequent emails I'll share a round-up of those posts. The feedback I get is that you enjoy the links I share to stuff that's sparked my interest elsewhere, so I'll sprinkle in a few of those too. Other than that, I'm open to requests 😆
