MARCH 2025

Here we go! Don’t tell the mods I’m two days late getting March’s newsletter out!

I drew this guy to test modifications I’d made to my favorite custom brush

I took stock of my Godzilla playing cards and I’m actually down to the last box, which feels crazy. I made these almost 10 years ago and I’ve lugged them around for multiple moves (they’re heavy!) and it’s always felt like a physical tether to to idea that the public perception of me is I’m a Godzilla Fan Artist, which I’m trying to shake. I still like Godzilla but I’d rather draw monsters I own (or at least ones people know who aren’t copywrited characters.) Here’s the thank you card doodles for this month’s online sales.

I’d been trying to refine my Hodag OC design and realized, once again, I can just use different iterations as family members and use them all. I’d written a Godzilla fan comic that got (kinda) popular but I didn’t like that I was working for free on a comic with characters I didn’t own and I think this might be the pivot to use the story (or a version of it) with fearsome critters instead of Toho kaiju.

To wrap up, some studies I’ve done testing or refining new digital tools.

playing around with a flat round brush, it’s a fun style but I think my usage of it looks too “WikiHow illustration”

I also finally found a digital paint brush I really like, a chunky streaky square tipped thing, as well as a set of really simple accompanying tools on the Clip Studio Paint store for some detail work. I really love digital painting, although I hesitate to use it on comic work because I haven’t found a replicable way to use them.

I actually haven’t drawn Waltar in awhile…

Thanks for reading along and looking at my silly pictures! Take care of yourself!
