Inaugural Missive

A few years back I went back to my old Blogspot and got a little wistful about sharing art on Al Gore’s internet before apps and smartphones, SO let’s see if we can recapture the magic here.

I think I just miss when the disintermediation of being an online artist wasn’t coupled with the idea that you had to also aspire to be a micro-celebrity. Looking at cool pictures from artists you like is great! And as a compulsive doodler I genuinely love having more informal outlets to share stuff that’s less polished.

I've never played any of Yoko Taro's video games but I admire his commitment to the bit and only appearing in public wearing this big mask. I drew this on the back of a pizza box so there's some fuzzy texture in the scan that I'm gonna pretend keeping in is an artistic choice.

I don’t know if the ice is really shrinking under Web 2.0 or if I’m abnormally detached from how normal people live their digital lives (it’s probably the latter) but rage-quitting basically all social media has at the very least calmed my monkey brain down. A phrase I’m going to internalize is Courtney Milan flipping the Silicon Valley mantra “move fast and break things” to “move intentionally and build things.”

I’ll try to send these once a month, with the drawings I’ve freely posted on Patreon and Bluesky along with a few exclusives (and more words.)

My colleague Chan Chau was doing a livestream and allowed chatters to request a drawing of themselves as an Among Us alien, and when they drew me they gave me a giant dip pen, which I thought fucking ruled and decided I needed to incorporate in a drawing of my own somewhere.

Till next time: take care of yourself, and thank you for being here!
