Tomato Head
This is just a quick, evening edition of On / Off because I had an appointment with my ob-gyn this morning at the time when I normally write this newsletter.
I biked to the doctor's office, which I was nervous about because I hadn't ridden my bike in about a month and the baby bump has grown a lot in that time, but it worked out well. It helped that it was pretty spring-like out today -- almost 50 degrees and sunny. I've decided that I'll keep biking for a little bit longer while I'm pregnant, as long as it feels safe to do so, i.e. as long as my routes mostly have bike lanes and I don't feel off balance while riding.
The appointment went really well - the little lizard is continuing to grow healthily and was moving all around during the ultrasound today. My doctor commented on it, saying, "you have a very active child," which I thought was just delightful. It's fun that I've gotten to the point in pregnancy where I can feel my future child throughout the day. I've felt the baby kick a few times while I've been writing this paragraph. Over the weekend, E and I did end up going for a drive, and I told him, "the little lizard either loves driving or hates it because it won't stop wiggling."
When I got home from my appointment, I told E about how it went and showed him the various measurements the doctor had taken and we worked together to decipher the information. What's BPD stand for? Apparently it's a little over 5 cm right now. Most of the numbers had to do with the size of the fetus's head, and E pulled out the tape measure to give us a visual. Then he disappeared into the kitchen and came back with something round that was approximately the right size: a tomato.
I really enjoyed picturing my active tomato-headed child for the rest of the day.
