🚴🏼♀️ Not just for kids either - while at the Edinburgh Uni King’s Buildings campus for doors open day I spotted a poster for a King’s Buildings bike bus as a more sociable and safe way to ride to campus - leaving from the Middle Meadow Walk & Jawbone Walk intersection every Thursday at 8.25am;

🛣 Road Closures and Route Issues
⚠️ On South bridge? Look out for this troublingly epic pothole…
🙃 There are ongoing issues on Lanark rd’s segregated cycle lanes with parked vehicles ignoring mandatory (solid white line) markings, but double yellow lines will return soon;
🚥 Howden Hall Rd and Balmwell Ter - lanes narrowed and temporary pedestrian crossing during pedestrian crossing upgrade work ongoing until 3rd Oct;
🚌 Corstorphine Rd - between Murrayfield Rd and Ormidale Ter, a section of the citybound bus lane will be closed from today until 6th Oct for Scottish Power upgrades;
🌀 Lanark Road West between the Ravelrig s-bend and Glenbrook Rd sees Openreach working on cable ducts via a rolling program involving some temporary lights and lane closure from today until Weds 27th;
💚 John Robson has shared that Old craighall rd is passable by bike and on foot in spite of currently being closed to motor vehicles.
Ongoing…
⛏ Large-scale city centre resurfacing work on Regent Rd, Waterloo Pl and Princes St lasts around 5 further weeks;
❌ Braidburn Terrace closed (dismount to pass via pavement) at the end of the Greenbank-Meadows Quiet Route while the new pedestrian and cycle realm enhancement works are underway, with overnight closures of Comiston Rd coming later in the project including bus diversions;
Ongoing updates on the Council’s Road reports page as the week unfolds and via @edintravel over on X - “We don’t need Twitter, we have X at home™”
🌈 Infrastructure Progress & Consultations
🏝 The bike lanes on the new ‘island’ public realm at Picardy place (linking the CCWEL route from the now-open North St David’s St / York Pl section to the segregated lanes on Leith Walk) should open this coming week - and look passable already;
🐦 The adjacent Elm row paths are nearing open state with the southbound path accessible, completing the link;
🚓 The Transport convenor shared that “Edinburgh is on-track to enforce a pavement parking ban from December 2023” - which while not strictly cycling related, may help ‘kerb’ some of the cycle lane parking prevalent across the city 😉
📆 Events and Happenings
🔊This Saturday 30th, Edinburgh Critical Mass is happening – a fun and diverse mass-group ride around the city to highlight the need for better cycling infrastructure. This month there’s a ‘superhero’ theme (costumes welcome!) and sets off as always at 2pm from Middle Meadow Walk with the route shared on their Xtwitter, FB and mailing list / site a few days before;
🍃 28th Sep - Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust opening of the Water of Leith NCN path upgrade;
🚺 30th Sep - Led ride for women from Wester Hailes to Ratho Marina.
