We're nearly there!

Welcome to my monthly newsletter! I'm so happy that you're here.

November 2024

It's finally November! Is it just me or has it felt both like the longest year AND the shortest? I think the elections will do that to you.

I hope that you are voting or have already voted! I casted my vote a few weeks ago and I have felt lighter ever since. I have done my part and all I can do now is encourage you to do yours. So vote if you haven't yet, yes your tiny vote matters. Do it!

November is also my favorite time of year because I get to finalize my new year goals! I'm a little bit of a planning human (I think I told you already that I bought my planner back in September) and now is where I really start to kick into gear, looking at what I accomplished this year and what I can accomplish in the next. I try to balance my goals and be both ambitious but not so much so that I'm setting myself up to fail. If I manage to put my goals down in my planner by the time I put this newsletter together for December I will share the details but otherwise you will for sure see them in the new year!

This was a busy month! I wrote a short story, edited another one AND created my reverse outline and edit notes for the novel I drafted last month. Suffice it to say, I am tired!

So I decided I'll be writing a new novel in November.

What can I tell you, I'm a glutton for punishment. My goal is to write 50k in November and another 40k in December AND edit a short story or two. I know I know, its too much. But I want to try and the worst that happens is I extend into the new year on the novel.

I do have a nice trip away with my wife scheduled in late December so if I'm lucky i will get a little break in there. It'll be great. When you can't find me in the new year you'll know why.

Send gummy candy lol.

I'm going to be part of the Shatter The Sun: Queer Tales of Untold Adventure Anthology produced by Neon Hemlock. You can back the Kickstarter here before November 14th at 2PM PST/5PM EST. I may or may not be editing my story for that in November and December ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€

I'm very excited to be participating in the November Neon Hemlock Live Reading! It'll be November 20th at 5PM PST/8PM EST on Instagram. I'm not sure what I'll be reading yet but very excited to be back in the building and sharing my work along side other amazing authors!

Also, if you're looking for a reader for an upcoming event or know some one who is, give them my name!!

I confess this was a slow reading month for me so you're getting fewer recs. You know how it is, when you're in the swing you're in it and when you're in the slump you're in it.

Chicano Frankenstein

I really enjoyed this little novella. Set in a near future (or current times hard to tell) version of our world where science allows for reanimation but the government is trying to regulate and to use the reanimated as political fodder for an election. It really hit a little too close to home but was a great read with an unnamed protagonist.

But I never stop watching lol!!!

RHONY

I know there are a lot of people who don't like this new iteration of the Real Housewives of New York City but I really enjoy it. Is it different than old RHONY? Of course it is but in the best ways. My fellow Eboni, Ms Eboni K. Williams was thrown into the lions den but in the new RHONY the brown girls are giving and key parts of the cast as opposed to feeling like the "diversity hire" . Is it perfect? No. Am I having fun? I am. It's bright and shiny and I love that.

Lioness

I watched Lioness last season on a whim. If you know me then you know I generally don't like War things. Not because they are so often military propoganda (though they are) but because they almost never have more than one woman or person of color and they are often relegated to the sidekick role if that. But Lioness looked interesting and I checked it out. And well, there were certainly things i found problematic but it was also pretty realistic I would guess. And queer too so ya know, I had a good time. New season just started so I'm back again. We'll see how it goes.

Boze but Shorter

I found Boze while she was at Smosh and was disappointed to see her leave. What can I say, I like the quirky, nerdy black girls. So color me surprised when she pops up on my radar again with her own host of channels one of which features bodycam videos. There is nothing better to me after a hard day of work then hearing Boze do her weird whisper voice and say "Best! Of! Bodycam!"

I just know i'm in for a good time. If you like her commentary on these then check out her long form stuff on her other channels as well.

Doing something a little different this month! I like to create seasonal playlists for myself so figured I would share that link with you and you can listen to the songs I'm playing over and over again. Some of which I skip depending on the vibe. Let me know if you enjoy anything.

And prepare yourself for next months holiday playlist!

Friends you should know!

That Art Party

I want to take a moment this month to introduce you to a friend of mine. That Art Party is a business run by my friend Naomi Fierro Peรฑa.

That Art Party's business is all about bringing play back into the lives of BIPOC adults. They do this through curated events for individuals and companies! If you have a business that is looking for a creative and and fun way to do activities for their team then you should check her out regardless of their identity.

And if you are a BIPOC Adult looking for a way to relax and you're in the SF Bay Area or want to have fun via Zoom, you should check her out too!

Thanks so much for joining me on this ride! I look forward to being together again next month with new updates and other fun things. Stay tuned friends! Bye for now!
