Just sending love

I've been writing a novella, gearing up for an upcoming panel, and recommending good reads, films, and organizations!

June 2026

Big News, Updates form the last month

Hey Friend!

As the title of this email suggests, I’m sending love. I’ve had a long, last few days (as you might have guessed by the tardiness of this email). I’m tired, and I bet you are too. I’m hurting and I bet you are too. So Happy Pride Month and I’m just sending you some love right now. Take a big hug from me, you deserve it.

What I'm working on: Projects in Progress and thoughts on writing

I’ve been working on a novella for this month and its going alright. I used story engine to help me build the prompt (see pictures below) and that was pretty fun. It does make me what to see how it works when you’re adding to existing characters or story. I’ve managed 15,000 words and hopeful to hit at least 20k next month, if not more. If I finish early then I want to try writing some creative non-fiction/personal essays and see how that goes.

I am trying to decide if I should take another break in July or dive right into a new novel. We’ll see.

2026 Goals

  • 1/3 Long form projects

    • UD: Complete at 60,226

  • 86/100 queries

  • 0/1 non-fiction essay submitted

Where I've Been: Interviews and other things you may have missed

A repeat from previous months but still true:

I haven’t been anywhere friends but can I introduce you to A Seat At The Table Books? You’ve heard me talk about this place before and I share a lot of their posts on socials. This is one of my local indie bookshops that is so so much more than that. It’s queer-owned, family-friendly, and so much more than a bookstore. They run a multitude of book clubs, writing events and offer their space as an event space (Check out the trivia!). It’s super community focus, its home to a community pantry, is a drop off point for NorCal Resists! donations and do a lot of educational work with their nonprofit arm. Thats to say nothing of their robust collection of diverse books and the amazing local authors they bring in all the time. Even if you’re not in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area, you can order from them online and keep an awesome indie bookstore and community third space alive. I love this place and I hope you will too!

Where to find me banner

In addition to my upcoming publications, I’m very excited to be going on a panel on June 14th at 2 PM at the San Francisco Public Library. It’s an unbelievable panel and me! I can’t wait. You can register for attendance here and the event is free.

Octavia’s Legacy

And of course you can pre-order Forged in FIYAH: Celebrating Ten Years of Black Speculative Fiction Edited by DaVaun Sanders and Shatter the Sun Edited by Dave Ring. Pre-ordering supports your favorite authors 😀

What I'm...: Reading, Watching, Listening to

Reading

This was fun! It’s speculative light but there is magic present. It follows three sisters in the DC/Baltimore area who are on the prespice of the next good thing in all of their lives. They have to figure out how to work together with their gifts, to get what they deserve. Basically, an all Black cast. Lovely read and some very good queer sex scenes.

The twist in this was so good!!! This is a Sci-Fi novella about a species that can jump into the bodies of another and one being who does so unexpectedly. The MC has to try to spy on the people around them and eventually discovers a wild secret. Really enjoyed this!

Ya’ll, it’s Murderbot. By now you should know I simply want it in my veins. If you haven’t read the series yet, now is a good time. It sounds like Martha Wells might be close to wrapping it up.

Are you on StoryGraph? That’s where I’m doing all my tracking. Come find me.

Watching

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come

I really enjoyed Ready or Not which was created by the same folks as You’re Next which I also loved. Got to love a final girl who is willing to get dirty in the name of her life. I thought this unexpected sequel was really fun. Did I have questions? Of course but it was still a really good time.

The Sheep Detectives

Did I know this was a kids movie? I honestly wasn’t sure. Was it still great for adults? 1000%. If you like a murder mystery you’ll enjoy this one too! Make sure you bring some tissue though,

They Will Kill You

Another great horror flick. Love the styling of this film and the twists were fun too. Also, a really good soundtrack here. It’s not scary so don’t say you can’t watch it. You’ll be fine. It’s a very B-movie or Kill Bill vibe.

Listening

No music this month, I have been all audiobooks all the time!
