It's my monthly newsletter!
And I accidentally skipped a month.
See, I told you it would be infrequent and (relatively) non-irritating.
47!
I was doing some really intense qualitative market research the other day and, know what? Turns out I need some reviews of The Unrepentant on the Amazon and on the GoodReads.
My goal with this book is to reach the lofty goal of 50 reviews on Amazon, which is when something magical happens in Amazon's algorhythms and your book appears everywhere and is, in fact, even a potential nominee in the 2020 election (#science). Currently, I have 13 reviews.
So I pulled out my old calculator, did the math, and turns out I need...47 more reviews to hit 60! Which is somewhat more than 50, but I'm not great at math.
Therefore, if you've read The Unrepentant and you would be so kind, I would appreciate it greatly if you could clickety-click this link and leave your review of the book. It would mean so much to me that I will, in fact, not go to your house and serenade you. I have an awful singing voice. You're welcome, and thank you.
Gaithersburg Book Festival
I've talked a lot about how much GBF means to me, and it was an absolute delight to take part in this year's festival, it's 10th! I was on a panel with John Copenhaver and Julie Maloney, moderated by Hannah Oliver Depp.
Washington Writers Conference
I had the chance to moderate a panel about violence in crime fiction at this year's Washington Writers' conference! The panelists were S.A. Cosby, Anjili Babbar, Christina Kovac, and some rando named...checks notes Jefferey Deaver.
Back at One More Page!
I went back to One More Page, this time with fellow writers and good friends Louis Bayard, Angie Kim, and Bethanne Patrick. It is, by the way, very nerve-wracking to have your book read by Bethanne Patrick, one of the top book reviewers in the country.
I genuinely love both of these writers so I'm really pleased that, for the next installment of "Two Writers You Should Read," Kathleen Barber chose to write about Angie Kim. Kathleen is so nice and Are You Sleeping? was so good...I'm honestly thrilled by her success (the novel was optioned for a television series that should be coming soon). And you've probably already heard of Angie's Kim's Miracle Creek, since it's been on every "top book" list imaginable. And deservedly so.
I count myself lucky to call both friends. Here's what Kathleen had to say about Angie:
Ever since I read Angie Kim’s debut novel MIRACLE CREEK, I’ve been breathlessly recommending it to everyone I encounter. Part courtroom drama, part taut mystery, and part heartbreaking story about hope, this book totally gutted me in the very best way. Angie Kim is a beautiful writer and an excellent storyteller, and I dare anyone to tell me differently.
And click on the images above to learn more about Kathleen, Angie, and their most recent books.
Some other stuff...I did a couple of interviews with some terrific writers. Alison McMahan and Greg Levin each interviewed me for their blogs.
For the next newsletter, I'll have a bunch more stuff. A couple of interviews by more terrific writers (Clea Simon and Roger Johns), a new column in the Washington Independent Review of Books, and a short story in Mystery Tribune magazine!
Oh yeah! I have to do that contest thing I yapped about and promoted and everything!
Without further pause, the winner of a book bundle AND a $50 Amazon gift card is...
Katrina Vallett!
Katrina, you'll receive an e-mail soon from me with the prize info! And, as a reminder to new and regular subscribers, I do contests monthly. Unless I forget to send the newsletter out one month. Which does happen.
Thank you so much for reading. See you next month!
