Another Virtual Reading? Yes, You Read Right!
Just a quick note for all of you, since I PROMISED not to be "that guy" who floods your inbox with stupid newsletters...but I did want to let you know about an event coming up tomorrow night.
The first Virtual Noir at the Bar that we did two weeks ago went so well that we're doing another! It's going to be this Friday night, at 8 PM EST, in support of D.C. landmark Kramerbooks. We have a full slate of fantastic writers (seriously, check out that list above), local jazz star Sara Jones will be singing again, and I'll be hosting.
Like i said, the first event went really well, excitingly so. I don't want to run the well dry, but I love doing something to help out in this time, even if it's in a small way. Whatever books we sell are going to be sold through the Kramerbooks' online site and, again, this event features more than a few writers with interrupted book tours.
The event link is https://www.crowdcast.io/e/d-c-s-2nd-virtual-noir.
Hope to see you there!
I miss your dumb faces.
Two of my closest friends in writing - and life - are Elizabeth Heiter and Jennifer Hillier. Elizabeth and I met at our very first ThrillerFest conference, along with Tom Sweterlitch, and the three of us hung out the entire weekend. Jennifer and I met when I sent her a blurb request / fan letter, kept corresponding, and simply never stopped. I love these two and can't imagine them not in my life. Both of them have books out this week, and I was so happy that Elizabeth recommended Jennifer when I asked her to contribute to "Two Writers You Should Read." As Elizabeth explains:
I picked up my first Jennifer Hillier book because we became friends at a writers conference - but I quickly discovered she writes exactly the type of book I love. Twisty, dark psychological suspense that keeps you guessing all the way until the end. Her last book, Jar of Hearts, won the coveted Thriller Awards Best Hardcover Novel, and her new one, Little Secrets, just released!
Click on the pics and names above to learn more about both writers and their most recent work.
It's contest time! The monthly contest winner wins copies of the two books listed in my "Two Writers You Should Read" segment.
The winner of this month's contest is:

Congrats, gov! Check your e-mail for a separate note from me, and happy reading!
Want a free book? I had the chance to participate in an "exquisite corpse," organized by Steve Weddle and Nick Kolakowski. For those that don't know, an exquisite corpse is a writing project where one writer writes a chapter, another follows the story with a chapter, another follows, etc., until the resolution. This was a fun, fast project, and I had the chance to work with a slew of talented writers. You can download (for free) the entire book HERE. I had chapter seven.
Until next time, much love to all of you. Hope to see you Friday, and Happy Reading!
