Volunteers Newsletter 1

Greetings from the Eastercon Glasgow Team!

Welcome to our inaugural Volunteers Newsletter. You’re receiving this because you have signed up as a volunteer already (thanks to all of you!) or indicated you’re interested in volunteering (thanks to you too!) We’ll be sending these out occasionally (never more than once a month) to keep you aware of what’s going on and let you know about volunteer opportunities you might be interested in.

Volunteer Interest Form

Before we begin, have you filled out our volunteer interest form? It’s just a short form we set up so you can give us info about when you’re available and what you’d be interested in doing. If you haven’t filled it out yet, it can be found right here: https://forms.gle/BtELZhiEv83aQ2gr6

Open Roles Right Now!

Are you ready to go? We admire your enthusiasm! Here are a few roles which we need to fill ASAP - if any of them sound good to you, shoot us an email at volunteers@easterconglasgow.org.

First up, we have the Volunteer Coordinator role. You’ll be responsible for stuff like monitoring volunteer needs, posting volunteer roles to the website, and keeping an eye on volunteer recruitment. You’ll also be sending out this very newsletter! (Well, not this one. But hopefully the next one.) If you’ve got a couple of hours a week and are organised, friendly, and view volunteers as one of our most important resources (because they absolutely are), this could be a great spot for you.

We’ve also got a couple open roles in our Programming team. We’re in need of a couple Guest of Honour liaisons. In this role, you would be responsible for making sure our GoH’s needs are met, coordinating communications so we don’t swamp them, and making sure we have what we need from the GoHs as well. This is a pre-con role that will carry through to at-con.

Are you more of an idea person? Are you interested in YA literature? Our Ideas team needs you! In this role you’ll help with brainstorming and constructing our YA programme, which will be a key aspect of our con offerings this year. This is a pre-con only role, and can be done with others.

Don’t Forget About Iridescence!

If you’re looking for something a little more immediate to do, our friends at Iridescence will be looking for help! Shoot them an email if you’re interested to chair@eastercon2026.org.

Reading Recommendation

We’re eagerly awaiting the next instalment in the Locked Tomb series by our GoH Tamsuin Muir, so it’s a great time to catch up. If you haven’t gotten stuck in yet, let me just say: SAPPHIC NECROMANCERS IN SPACE. Have you read it? Let us know what you think!

Listening Recommendation

For a spooky season Glasgow treat, check out The Antique Shop by Ghostly Thistle. Our protagonist Maya finds the job she desperately needs in a dusty, out of the way antique shop - but nothing is as it seems. I’m on Episode 51 and am rationing because I don’t want to get to the end too fast.

That’s all for now! If you’ve got any questions, suggestions, or anything else you’d like us to know, please shoot us an email at volunteers@easterconglasgow.org.

Until next time,

The Eastercon Glasgow Team
