Volunteer Newsletter 3
Hello from me, the (very) new volunteering co-ordinator, Lesley Scott. I’ve done some volunteering in the past – green room, gophering, registration desk at Eastercons and Worldcons, but this is my first pre-con volunteering.
This will be the last volunteers’ newsletter before Iridescence, Eastercon ’26. We’ll be at Iridescence, of course so do come over to say hi – either at our fan table or, more likely, in the bar!
Pre-con Volunteer Roles
Volunteering is a great way to gain or build on your experience and knowledge. And there are freebies for volunteers! We have some exciting roles needing filled pre-con.If you fancy any of them, get back to us please at: volunteers@easterconglasgow.org. The time commitments given are rough, flexible and may change as we get nearer to the con. They are –

Con presence.
To organise tables and table volunteers at other conventions. Includes: keeping track of conventions we want a presence at; booking the table; organising flyers, fan-bait etc. Skills/experience required: organisational skills, logistics skills.
Tell us why you volunteer
We’re starting a wee ‘Why We Volunteer’ social media campaign to try and encourage more people to volunteer with us at Unconfined. Please might you contribute something to this?
We’re looking a short piece (maybe 200 words, or a portrait-oriented video) about why you volunteer, what you enjoy about it, what you like about the roles you’ve had. Could you please send any submissions to: promotions@easterconglasgow.org Your replies, possibly edited, will appear on our social media and maybe the next general newsletter.
Eastercon 2027 Book Club needs you!
Starting in April (right after Iridescence), we’re going to be starting a monthly online book club. We’ll be streaming chats about recent and classic works from our Guests of Honour and others. Want to get involved? Signups are here!
And finally…
What’s got us hooked just now? One of our co-chairs, David Bamford, is reading Lords of Uncreation by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which is the third in his Final Architecture series, and watching Starfleet Academy, a Star Trek series. He is also listening through the back catalogue of the death metal band Fulci, who are named after and take inspiration from Lucio Fulci, a famed Italian film director who was known for his work in the horror ‘giallo’ subgenre in the 70s and 80s.
Next volunteers’ newsletter
These come out roughly monthly, so you’ll find another dropping into your mailbox in late March/early April.
