What’s been happening

SMOFCon

Several of the Unconfined team attended SMOFCon in Stockholm, Sweden, at the start of December. We had a great time discussing and sharing conrunning experiences. In particular, we had a great time at the International Party on the Saturday evening, where we, along with Pictcon, Satellite, and a bid for Worldcon 2034 in Glasgow, hosted a Scottish table full of iconic Scottish nibbles and drinks. We can report that as usual, the dark chocolate Tunnocks ran out faster than the milk chocolate ones by far. We’ll make sure to bring extra to future fan tables!

Prof. Esther McCallum-Stewart (Worldcon 2024, Glasgow), Meg MacDonald (Worldcon 2034 bid), Alan Fleming and David Bamford (Unconfined co-chairs) and John Coxon (Octothorpe podcast) at the Scotland International table at SMOFCon

Best wishes to you all this end of year

As we head into the shortest days of the year, we wish you all the very best as the year turns and we look forward to longer days and more light (especially in Scotland!) However you celebrate, or not, at this time of year, we wish you all the very best this season and for the future.

We will be taking a one-month break from the newsletter during this quiet time of the year, so our next issue will be in mid-February. By then, we will be very excited as Iridescence will be nearly upon us!

Volunteer with us?

As always, we are still looking for people to help out with Unconfined.

In particular, we’re looking for people interested in creating content for our website and for Social Media. Can you take a good short video? Able to create a Tiktok? Know the ins and outs of setting up advertising on Insta or Tiktok? If so, we'd love to hear from you. We’re also looking for people who have experience in managing and moderating public-access discussion platforms, especially Discord.

Click here to fill in our volunteer form, or if you don’t want to fill in a form but still want to talk about volunteering, or for anything else, mail volunteers@easterconglasgow.org and we’ll respond as soon as we can.

Merch

Just a reminder that our shop is still open. Buying merchandise from us directly supports our convention. You may have missed the window for pre-Xmas gift delivery, but just think how warm you’ll be in one of our hoodies or sweatshirts in the cold days of January or February!

Our pull-ver hoodie in Charcoal Grey. Other colours available!

Don’t forget about Iridescence!

Art of a phoenix rising skyward

Unconfined is the 2027 Eastercon, but that doesn’t mean that you should forget about 2026. Iridescence is next year’s Eastercon, to be held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham (the Hilton at the National Exhibition Centre) between the 3rd and 6th of April 2026. Don’t forget to join.

Thanks to…

España Sheriff, for both our wonderful logos and the Iridescence logo.

Newsletter Admin

When you join Unconfined, you choose to have sent to you all communications or essential updates only. We will send out each Progress Report (four in total before the convention) plus final details to all members. All other newsletters – around one a month – will be sent to those who have chosen to receive all communications.

If you are a member of the convention and wish to change how often you receive mail from us, please log into the registration system and update your choice.
