Hi everyone, and welcome to Unconfined's first newsletter. We know the email subject is wrong. This isn't the first newsletter: that was sent out before we were seated, but this the first since then. Apologies to those of you who signed up on the website for the long delay. From now on, we expect to send newsletters out approximately monthly.

We will be using newsletters as our primary way of sending out information to members and subscribers, though we will be posting the same content on our website, and making it available there in PDF and ePUB.

Newsletter Admin

When you join Unconfined, you choose to have sent to you all communications or essential updates only. We are proposing to send out each Progress Report (four in total before the convention) plus final details to all members. All other newsletters — around one a month — will be sent to those who have chosen to receive all communications.

If you are a member of the convention and wish to change how often you receive mail from us, please log into the registration system and update your choice.

What’s been happening

At the 2025 Eastercon — Reconnect — held in Belfast, we were voted to become the 2027 Eastercon. That is four months ago, but we haven’t been idle. We’ve been building a strong team, discussing our requirements with the Crowne Plaza and finalising the contract, and our Programme Team have started work on developing our themes and ideas. Things are moving forward and we look forward to sharing some of our plans in future newsletters.

Congratulations to our Guest of Honour L R Lam for the re-release of the first of their Micah Grey trilogy — Pantomime! What great new cover art! The rest of the series is also being released soon — in November and January — so look out for them.

Come help us?

Conventions are run entirely by volunteers. At a convention, there are a huge number of things happening that are done by a peson volunteering some of their time, but before the con, there are many things needing attention too.

In particular, we’re looking for people interested in creating content for our website and for Social Media. Can you take a good short video? Able to create a Tiktok? Know the ins and outs of setting up advertising on Insta or Tiktok? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

Buy our Merch!

You might not know that we already have a range of merchandise available on our web site. We have t-shirts in unisex, women’s and children’s cuts, in a wide range of colours. We have mugs, and we have tote bags.

Buying things from us directly supports our convention. And the advertising when you wear or use it is good for us too, of course.

Don’t forget about Iridescence!

Unconfined is the 2027 Eastercon, but that doesn’t mean that you should forget about 2026. Iridescence is next year’s Eastercon, to be held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham (the Hilton at the National Exhibition Centre) between the 3rd and 6th of April 2026. Don’t forget to join.
