Ask Us Anything about DWeb Camp Fellowships
Join our Ask Us Anything session this Friday, March 22. We'll be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the DWeb Fellowship 2024 or DWeb Camp itself. These could include: the Fellowships application process, insights into DWeb Camp this year, expectations, assessment criteria, and more.
This session will be held in English but not recorded. However, we'll be gathering the questions asked during the session to compile a FAQs blog post. This way, we can share the insights with the broader community and those unable to attend the event.
Apply for DWeb Camp Fellowships By April 1
And on that note, the DWeb Fellowship application process is OPEN! We're looking for those working with and for marginalized communities such as community organizers, educators, technologists, researchers, activists, journalists, designers, and everyone in between to make network technologies more just, inclusive, and accessible. Please spread the word if you know of anyone or any communities that would be interested in learning about the program.
As a Fellow, we will cover your costs to travel to and from Camp, as well as your campership and accommodations. Our Fellows are outstanding individuals creating or employing technologies to uplift communities facing systemic inequality and help bring about justice and social equity. Be part of an amazing cohort of people who are not only imagining a better Web but are building it for and alongside marginalized populations.
Fellows will be expected to: - Attend online and in-person orientations and team-building activities before and during the event - Share their knowledge, skills, or experience with other DWeb Campers, by giving a talk and/or leading a workshop or discussion during the event - Write or give a presentation of their reflections following the event at a DWeb meetup - Participate in Camp Build and Takedown
Help us plan for DWeb Camp 2024
DWeb Camp 2024 is on the horizon so get ready to gather at Camp Navarro. It would be super helpful for us if you could fill out this survey to help us plan for Camp and allow us incorporate your ideas into our planning. If you indicate an interest in volunteering, stewarding, or sponsoring Camp, we'll be following up with you later this month.
We’ll be looking to fill the following roles for DWeb Camp 2024: Head Weaver, code of conduct team volunteer, family programming support, stage manager, documentation support: videography, recording, photography and writing. If you’re interested in any of these or know someone who might be, reach out at dwebcamp@archive.org.
COMMUNITY UPDATES
- Bay Area DWeb Community Co-Working Day: DWeb Co-Working on Fridays at the Internet Archive. Enjoy amazing wifi, a nice workspace, snacks, coffee, tea and good company. RSVP to help us prepare if you plan to be there and come by between 10am–5pm PST. We are located at the cross section of Funston and Clement in San Francisco. There’s free street parking but you have to move your car every 2 hrs. It’s also a short walk from the California and Geary MUNI lines. Come to the black iron gate to the right of the main doors, along the grass-lined path. There will be signs outside to help find it. Ring the bell when you arrive. Feel free to bring a friend! If you have questions, ask in our Discord and Matrix channels.
- Causal Islands Los Angeles this Saturday: If you’re in or around Los Angeles this week, don’t miss Causal Islands – happening this Saturday, March 23. Causal Islands LA is the first community edition of the 2023 conference held in Toronto. Causal Islands is an event about the future of computing, organized by our friends at Fission. And it's about connecting people across different specializations and disciplines to get off their islands, come together, share deep knowledge and experience in order to inspire and connect with others. Check out lu.ma/causal-islands-la if you’re interested in learning more or attending.
If you have any updates you’d like to share with the community, let us know.
