DWeb May Virtual Meetup: Camp Demo Preview
This THURSDAY May 23, 10am PT / 19 CET join us for the May DWeb Meetup, where we’ll be previewing some of the projects that will be demoing at Camp this year – featuring Tor-enabled dweb browsing, p2p protocols, and more!
We’ll be hearing first from Brewster Kahle and Arkadiy Kukarkin on work the Internet Archive is doing to provide a dedicated Tor onion service to allow private read & write access to their collections, including from politically repressive locales.
Christine Lemmer-Webber will be giving a talk about the latest developments at Spritely Institute to build a distributed application framework. We’ll be hearing from Andreas Dzialocha about building a protocol for local-first applications along with p2panda, a decentralized festival-organizing app. Greg Slepak of okTurtles Foundation will be demoing Group Income, an end-to-end encrypted, decentralized tool to distribute basic income for a team, a family, or a group of friends.
Finally, we'll hear from Esther Jang and Zoe Moore about their plans for the Camp network this year, including inviting all participants to join in building a local mesh network with Meshtastic nodes and your unused electronics.
When: Thursday, May 23 • 10–11am PT Where: Online Virtual
Lock in Early Bird Prices now! Ticket prices increasing June 1.
DWeb Camp is committed to making the experience as affordable as possible. That’s why we’re using a sliding scale for ticket prices based on your income – determined completely by the honor system.
But at DWeb Camp, inflation is driving up the costs for food, equipment, and staffing, so this year the true cost to attend is $1400 per person.
Starting June 1, our Early Bird pricing will end and ticket prices will reflect our true costs. Based on income, we ask attendees to pay the Full Rate of $1400; those with more resources we ask to pay $2000 to help others come at below cost; and others we offer a Reduced Rate at 50% off, or $700.
So, now is a great time to get your tickets with Early Bird pricing through May 31 at midnight. You can earn even more discounts by serving as a volunteer. Check out the application below – deadline to apply is this Friday, May 24!
We want to make it possible for you to attend DWeb Camp. Hope to see you in the redwoods. 🏕

There are lots of ways to stay connected and involved at DWeb Camp. DWeb camp is built and run by volunteer power. Are you a team player, a DIY builder who loves the outdoors? Can you paint a sign, lay cables or help erect a tent? Are you a thrifty maker, known for turning discarded items into gold?
Then we are looking for you! We seek up to 30 volunteer “Links” who can work before, during or after the camp as part of a fun and dedicated team of superheroes.
What do you get in return? First, you’ll be a part of a great team with a special hang-out cabin stocked 24/7 with things to power you up. Also, by volunteering or being a Space Steward you can be reimbursed up to 100% of the cost of your ticket. Come join us in creating an one-of-a-kind event.
