Join us for an Introduction to Decentralized Identity + Updates from DWeb
Keeping Your Personal Data Personal: How Decentralized Identity Drives Data Privacy Instead of handing over your data everytime you log on to a platform, what if there was a better way forward? What if you could maintain control over your personal identity and share only what is needed? Enter decentralized or self-sovereign identity (SSI). In the future, we believe each person will hold an e-wallet and control his/her/their own personal information.
This Thursday, March 31, 2022, join leaders in Digital Identity: Kaliya Young for an introduction to Decentralized Identity, plus Lambert Heller of the Open Science Lab at TIB & Irene Adamski of Jolocom demonstrating ConDIDI — Conference Digital Identifier Integration, a self-sovereign identity platform for academic conferences.
This is the third in the series of workshops presented by the Metropolitan New York Library Council, Internet Archive, DWeb, and Library Futures. Register here for Thursday's session, read the guides from previous sessions or catch up on recordings.
SAVE THE DATE: DWeb Camp 2022 is coming!
DWeb Camp: August 24-28 Camp Navarro, near Philo, California Set in the beautiful redwoods near the Mendocino coast of California, DWeb Camp is a five-day retreat for dreamers and builders. For those who want to create a decentralized web that is more open, private, secure and fun. DWeb Camp is a place where diverse people can freely exchange ideas about the technologies, laws, markets and agreements we need to build a better digital future. It is a chance to make deep connections: to builders of Web 3.0, to the pioneers of the World Wide Web, to global communities calling for better technologies. We bring together artists, activists, policymakers, educators, families and technologists in the beautiful redwood forests of California to start building a better, decentralized world. DWeb Camp is co-created by our community. So what knowledge, skills, gifts and passions do you want to share? Some possibilities:
- Volunteer to build the camp Aug 22-23.
- Be a Space Steward and host one of the event spaces.
- Be a Weaver and facilitate a small group.
- Come as a Global Fellow to build bridges between communities.
- Give a talk.
- Lead a workshop.
- Host a policy salon.
- Create an artistic activation.
- Organize a game night.

Welcome DWeb Bangalore!
We are happy to announce the DWeb has a new node in Bangalore. DWeb's Bengaluru node is the first DWeb Node in India! The city's carefully-crafted communities capture the vibrant spirit of technology, culture, economics, and policy! Bengaluru has one of the most meaningful meetup scenes in the world since the past decade (and many more decentralized groups since the 1960s). The cyberphysical communitarians of this node naturally embody the DWeb principles of ecological awareness, humanity, and mutual respect. With the advent of technology, these people have increasingly shifted towards treating technology as a means to hone human agency and derive distributed benefits for everyone in the community.
