📢 Important DWeb Camp 2025 Announcement
Important DWeb Camp 2025 Announcement 📢
Our community has come together for DWeb Camps in 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Over the years, more than 2000 campers have journeyed to Northern California to connect, learn, share, and play as we build better, more decentralized network technologies. What started as an event has formed an emerging movement — informed by a set of shared principles about how we shape the web. A web that actualizes principles of trust, human agency, mutual respect, and ecological awareness.
But, what’s next? Where should we put our energies in 2025? After community surveys, consultations, and much deep thought, the core organizers of DWeb Camp (myself, mai ishikawa sutton, Ese Ojo, Kev Nguyễn, ngoc trieu, Ian Davis, Iryna Nezhynska, Andi Wong, and Arkadiy Kukarkin, with input from Boris Mann and Will Howes) have decided that it is time to put our energy into truly decentralizing DWeb. We want to nurture this movement in a way that empowers nodes around the world, especially those outside of the United States. We want to focus our energies in 2025 on helping local networks build capacity and grow.
So rather than host a DWeb Camp in Northern California in 2025, we will be using our resources to support regional events hosted by our DWeb partners.  Learn more about what’s to come for DWeb in 2025 in our blogpost.
We want to hear from you. How can the DWeb community help you reach the next level? What are your dreams, goals, and needs? What ideas do you have that need support? Join us at the next virtual DWeb Meetup — What’s Next? An interactive discussion today, Thursday, November 14 at 5 PM PT / 8pm ET to discuss where the DWeb community should focus in the coming, surely tumultuous year.
TODAY: Thursday, November 14 Meetup on What's Next for DWeb
Does it feel as if the world you know is shifting into greater uncertainty? How can the DWeb community help ground you, support you, and chart a path forward for tech to better serve our needs?
What about DWeb Camp 2025? The Core Organizers have been debating whether a yearly or every-other-year makes more sense. We have a proposed 2025 calendar of events we’d like to share with you. As we look ahead to the coming year, we want to gather with you and discuss what we can do together to move this movement forward. What can we do for each other to support each others’ projects? What are ongoing activities or communication platforms we need to bring about a truly decentralized web?
Join us at our next virtual meetup today, November 14, 2024 5pm PT / 8pm PT for an interactive discussion on what’s next for DWeb and how we shape the next chapters together.

Due to a series of technical set backs, we've gotten severely delayed in uploading and properly archiving our photos and videos from Camp this year. The timeline for when these will be up is still uncertain, as it is now contingent on when the Archive is back up and able to take new uploads. We will keep you posted -- thank you all for your patience.

- November 20-22, 2024—2024 Nonprofit Software Development Summit | Oakland, California: The 21st annual Nonprofit Software Development Summit will take place from November 20-22, 2024 in Oakland, California, USA. This collaborative annual gathering includes everyone from grassroots activists and campaigners, to journalists and policy advocates, to movement lawyers and fundraisers, to educators and communicators, to software and hardware developers. The community comes together from around the world to share knowledge, build relationships, and collectively envision the future of free, open and equitable digital tools and practices to support social change. This year, the Summit will focus on "operations" technology, the so-called "back office" platforms that underpin organizational operations from accounting and contracting to HR and fundraising. It will compare who is using what, take stock of gaps and concerns, and explore whether there are opportunities for open and values-aligned alternatives. Learn more and register here.
- Thursday, November 21, 2024—Deadline to submit Stop Surveillance Copaganda Short Stories: Fight for the Future, RightsCon, Strange Horizons, and COMPOST Magazine have launched a call for short stories at StopCopaganda.org. This call invites the digital rights community to showcase their creativity by submitting unpublished, original pieces of fiction in English of 5,000 words or less to highlight the harms and realities of surveillance technologies. The stories submitted will be used as the foundation for a new toolkit with more just and accurate depictions of centralized surveillance technologies. Five stories will be purchased and published in a special issue of Strange Horizons and in the toolkit. One author will be invited to participate in an expenses-paid trip to the 13th edition of RightsCon, the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age, in Taipei, Taiwan from February 24 to 27, 2025. The deadline to submit a story is November 21, 2024. Find out more at StopCopaganda.org.
