DWeb Virtual Meetup June 13: Towards Sustainable, Impactful Digital Commons
From Private to Public Goods: Towards Sustainable, Impactful Digital Commons
Join us NEXT WEEK June 13 10-11am PT for a discussion on sustainable funding and impact measurements for physical or digital public goods. Over the years, people have committed their time and energy to build free and open source software, network standards and protocols, and all matters of public culture and knowledge -- all of which has enabled others to access and further build upon an open, accessible Web.
And yet, time and again, their efforts are undermined by economic realities. Some of the most critical infrastructure can lose its maintainers when it lacks financial support, even while millions rely on it. It's up to all of us to figure out how to sustain these public goods. We need to understand which projects are in need of support, properly evaluate their impact, and examine how they interrelate and mutually reinforce each other.
At this year's DWeb Camp, we will have a series of presentations, discussions, and activities that will explore solutions to this perennial problem with the open web.

You are welcome to propose activities such as inspiring talks, interactive workshops, or engaging panel discussions on a variety of topics. Don’t forget to secure your tickets to DWeb Camp 🎟️
There’s still time to grab your tickets for DWeb Camp. At DWeb Camp 2024, we’ll explore the theme of migration and how we can move together toward the Web we want and deserve. We’ll tackle real-world challenges that technology may address: can we bring tools to migrate people and data onto the Decentralized Web? We’ll share fundraising knowledge to help everyone find sustainable resources for their journeys. Musicians will perform new music about migration & climate change, while campers share their migration stories using the open source platform, Terrastories.
Early bird pricing is now closed. Starting June 1, we ask attendees to pay the Full Rate of $1400. For those with more resources, we ask to pay $2000 to help others come at below cost; and for others with lower income, we offer a Reduced Rate at 50% off, or $700. DWeb Camp remains committed to making the experience as affordable as possible but inflation has driven up the costs for food, equipment, and staffing. This year, the true cost to attend is $1400 per person but we are using a sliding scale for ticket prices based on your income – determined completely by the honor system.
Come build bridges and community while you hack, hike, converse, and create a better society together amidst the giant redwoods. See you there!
