DWeb Camp is ONE WEEK away!
#DWebCamp2024 Schedule is OUT NOW!
The DWeb Camp Schedule is now up at https://dwebcamp2024.sched.com/.
There are almost 400 sessions in there including workshops, talks, panels, games, performances and classes for Campers to participate in.
To set yourself up for an awesome DWeb Camp, we strongly encourage you to download the Sched App on your phone and refresh it right before arriving. You can get the app on the Apple Store or Google Play Store. In some areas of the camp, Wi-Fi is limited, and there is no cell service across the venue.
You can start planning your time at Camp on the app or your web browser. Start adding sessions to create your own schedule. This year, attendees will also be able to chat with each other on the app. So, log in to Sched, update your profile and don’t forget to set your profile to public if you'd like to be visible to other attendees. If you’re a speaker, the app allows you to email those attending your session, update the description, or post your slides.
Last Chance to Get Tickets
Is there someone you know that absolutely should not miss Camp? Well we only have a handful of tickets left now — we put a buffer on the number of attendees we gave our caterer so it’s really your last chance to get your ticket or invite your friends and colleagues! Besides looking over the schedule, if you want to hear about what’s in store for Camp this year, you can watch the recording of our virtual meetup from last week.
Announcing our 2024 DWeb Fellows
We are thrilled to present our 2024 cohort of DWeb Fellows! This year, we have 21 Fellows joining us at DWeb Camp next week.
Know Before You Go
Opening day is just a week away and close to 500 campers have signed up to meet in the Redwoods to share, learn and be in community with each other. Are you ready? Check out some of the amazing campers who will be attending on the People page. We’ve put together a comprehensive check list of essential information, packing lists, COVID policy and more. Weather forecast is chilly, so pack a few layers! There is water in the river for splashing and wading. Read on for your final preparations.
Archive Your Memento at the Migration Station
We have a new pop-up space at Camp this year — the Migration Station, a space for archiving migration mementos and self-organized workshops. The exact location is TBD, but it will be located near the Library and rock climbing station. Planned layout of the Migration Station Our theme this year is Migration: Moving Together. And along this theme, we’re inviting all Campers to bring a small memento (up to 5x5 inches/120x120 mm) reflecting personal or resonant migration stories. At the station, you'll photograph the item, write a note, and record an audio story using the Custodisco and Audiovisco kiosks. Photo of the Custodisco Kiosk, where you can photograph and add your migration story to your memento archive. A digital archive of the collected stories and a physical time capsule will be created, with selected items to be preserved and buried at the Internet Archive garden and unearthed in 2048! The exact spot where we’ll be burying the physical time capsule in the Internet Archive garden
Migration Memento Ideas
Possible mementos include family photos, textiles, handmade art, small statues, religious artifacts, meaningful rocks, jewelry, or old keys. If you didn’t bring a memento, you can visit the Art Barn to create something at Camp. Above is a photo of DWeb Camp’s Executive Producer, Wendy Hanamura’s grandmother and grandfather. Wendy will be archiving the story of how both of her grandmothers came to the United States as picture brides through Angel Island in California.
Migration Station Workshops
Throughout the week, the space will offer self-organizing workshops, including: - Collective story sharing/listening - Archive exploration sessions - Discussions on archiving experiences - Map drawing workshops - Working with the archival material (noise cleaning, translations) - Reviewing favorite archived materials - Discussions on the future significance of the archive
Bring your mementos, stories, and dreams to the Migration Station this year!
