Close out the year with our DWeb community 🥂
DWeb Virtual Holiday Solstice Social
December 20/21
2023 is coming to an end and we’d like to invite folks from across the DWeb to come reflect on the year and look ahead to 2024.
This will be a purely social event. No agendas or speakers. Just join, bring a refreshing beverage or snack for yourself, and hang out with folks. Come meet friends, old and new.
We're scheduling two time slots for folks to gather, but you're welcome to organize your own impromptu meetings and use our space anytime in between. We’re opening a room in Gather.town for 12 hours, so drop in anytime and stay as long as you’d like during the day.
The two time slots are meant to accommodate folks in different time zones. NOTE: If there’s a +1 next to the time it means it’s the next day in that time zone.

ZuSocial Hacker House Recap
Our friends from Matters Lab wrapped up their ZuSocial Hacker House event and it was a great success! From November 5th to 19th, participants at the Hacker House in Istanbul embarked on a journey to tackle challenges in the decentralized social ecosystem. Organized by communities of Matters Lab, Mask Network, Social Layer, and Zuzalu, it was a confluence of ideas, envisioning a resilient, engaging, and plural social landscape.
Take a quick look at their thread or read more from their blog: ZuSocial Hacker House in Istanbul: A Hub of Decentralized Social Innovation and Community Engagement. Recordings of talks and workshops are linked in the blog. We’re excited for more events like these to bridge our communities and work towards building a better web.
Another Look Back on
DWeb+Coolab Camp Brazil
One of our core organizers, Antonia Bustamante, writes about her experience (in Spanish): Descentralizar para fortalecer comunidades: DWeb+Coolab Camp Brasil.
One lesson she shares from the event (translated into English): “… the importance of living and thoroughly understanding the localized problems, the particularities, the territory, the temporality, the context, before proposing technological solutions from the abstraction of a screen or the distance of cities. Each community or human group has its own work and communication logic, its own rhythms, its own priorities, its own forms, and it is from there that we must start to think about technical development.”
And in case you missed it the first time — here are reflections from this year’s DWeb Camp in Navarro, CA: Moments in the Redwoods: Reflections and Stories from DWeb Camp 2023. We offer these stories to bring moments of hope, introspection, and endurance during these difficult times. We’ll see you again in 2024!
