LazyVim for Ambitious Developers: Chapter 13 released
Hi everyone,
Man the weeks are just flying by for me this summer. I have a few updates about the book:
Chapter 13 has been released. It follows up on the searching chapter with a deep dive into replace (substitutions). I decided not to add a section on nvim-rip-substitute as it hasn’t been working too well for me, but it’s being actively developed and I may update it before publication.
I have completed first drafts of the remaining content. Several of them are still pretty rough. But the outline you see on the site is the expected final outline.
I’m up to Chapter 16 on Patreon. I’m almost done editing down Chapter 17 (on Debugging) and will post it there today or tomorrow.
I’m starting to look into self-publishing options. Current plan is to have both a hardcover and paperback book as well as e-book formats. The hard cover will be in full colour. When I was studying web development, I had one textbook with full colour syntax highlighting and it was SO worth the premium price.
I’m expecting to rewrite the book from Markdown to Asciidoc so I can have a single source file for the print and web versions. Markdown doesn’t have enough control for things like pagination. The four editions of Python Object Oriented Programming were really annoying, so I’m trying to streamline future updates as much as possible. LazyVim evolves at a crazy pace, so I know that updates are inevitable.
Keep the errata coming! It’s easier to fix them now than after it’s gone to print. I’m a bit ashamed at how many issues people are finding. I’ll do a thorough proofing pass after the asciidoc migration.
As always, thank you for your interest and support!
Dusty
