Belated Snacks Picker and Explorer Updates in LazyVim For Ambitious Developers
Folke pushed a flurry of updates earlier this year to swap out the LazyVim picker and explorer experiences from third-party plugins (fzf-lua and Neo-tree) for plugins from his suite of Snacks.nvim plugins.
Thanks to a new full-time job (as much as I’d love to make my living writing about software, writing software is far more lucrative), I haven’t had time to update LazyVim For Ambitious Developers with the new content. Pickers and the tree view are referenced in multiple chapters, so I knew this was going to be a big update.
The biggest change is actually that the explorer is less powerful; as far as I can tell, you can no longer manipulate buffers or git status from the explorer, so I was able to shorten the book a little bit!
If you’ve been using LazyVim for a while, you will not be forced to switch to the snacks explorer and picker; you’ll need to enable them from the LazyExtras menu. New installs will default to the Snacks picker and explorer, though, and if you prefer fzf-lua (or Telescope) or the Neo-tree experience, you’ll need to enable them in LazyExtras.
Things have been quiet in LazyVim land lately… Folke took a vacation, which I’m pretty sure I appreciate more than he does!
I thought I’d also share some numbers, as I had to pull them out of PayHip for the Canadian Revenue Agency. Over 200 of you have bought the book over the past six months, split between 191 ebooks and 14 print books. I’m super grateful for the $3400 in sales this has generated, as I know you all have the option to read the book for free on the web.
Thank you so much for the support, and happy hacking!
