Wrong. It wasn’t that the Mg42 was unsuitable. 

It was due to the internal configuration of German tanks that were designed for the Mg34. 

Then the Mg42 came along.

The MG 34 was the standard German machine gun in 1939. The upper weapon here is the tank model, fitted with an armoured barrel cover for protection if the tank comes under fire.
