How many miles of yarn can one store sell?

THANK YOU to everyone (and the weather) for making our first anniversary sale and party such a huge success! We loved seeing our little store completely crammed full of people all day and had such a fabulous time seeing all our favorite customers in their knitted and crocheted finery.

First order of business - I’m sure you’ve all been waiting with bated breath for the prize-winning answer to our Activity Sheet bonus question: how many yards of yarn did we sell in our first year?

excerpt of a boring spreadsheet with yardage and grams shown
Sneak peek of my yardage math. I love spreadsheets!

We ran all the numbers, and found that (as of November 10) we sold 2,575,202 yards of yarn, or a little over 1,463 miles. That would stretch from here to Phoenix, Arizona, where you probably wouldn’t need it!

Incredibly, one of our customers guessed 1,461 miles, just two miles off from the correct total! Congratulations to Chris for absolutely nailing it, unless you somehow hacked into my google sheets account in which case please don’t do that!

New items and restocks

In any case, we’ve already started rebuilding our stock after you all did such a great job cleaning us out last weekend. There’s lots more on the way, but we’ve already stocked some great stuff:

  • A big restock of Kiriki embroidery dolls, including the always-in-demand Pig and Bat models, and for the first time some kid-friendly and extremely giftable Stitched Ornament kits

  • Restocks of all your favorite Lunenburg Makery needle felting kits (also an amazing gift!)

  • Yarn restocks including Lettlopi and Alafosslopi, Morris DK, Puna, Mamacha, Ayni, and a new, low-cost superwash merino sock yarn (Uni Merino)

  • Tons of NEW books from Microcosm Publishing, including Custom-Fit Hats, Fix Your Clothes, The Magic of Pockets, Making Stuff and Doing Things, Math for Knitters, Microcrafts, and the Pocket Books of Knitting and Crochet - plus restocks of favorites like Patty Lyons’ Knitting Bag of Tricks and Bouquet in a Book

  • Our very own crochet teacher Jess’s amazing 2026 calendar, featuring 12 babes in her handmade crochet wear

Classes!!!

If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also added new sessions of Jess’s sold-out Learn to Crochet classes in January and February, and there’s still room in her Crochet a Snorlax class (also in January). There’s also still a few slots left in Jen’s upcoming Spectra Scarf course and all of Maggie’s January and February knitting classes, including Knit Your First Sock, Knitting 101, Flower Mittens, and Travelers’ Cardigan. Don’t make me say “great gift idea” again!!
