Fall classes at the Dropped Stitch!
It’s been a gorgeous September weekend in Chicago, but those autumn winds are starting to blow.. there’s no better time to head over to your local yarn store and learn a craft with some brand new friends!
We’ve just added some new classes to our October and November calendar and they’re already starting to fill up!

Make Your First Sock (Thursdays, October 2, 9, and 16): Socks look intimidating, but Maggie will get you through your first one even if you’ve never made anything more complicated than a scarf. And the techniques you’ll learn (magic loop, short rows, picking up stitches) can be applied to everything from gloves to sweaters.
Knit Some Handwarmers (Saturdays, October 4 & 11): this two-week class for confident beginners will walk you through making a pair of super cute fingerless gloves, perfect for a holiday gift (but we won’t blame you if you keep them for yourself..)
Crochet a Winter Hat (Fridays, October 10 & 17): interested in crochet but never picked up a hook in your life? This class is for you! Learn the basics of crochet and make a cozy beanie over the course of two weeks.
Knitting 101 (Wednesdays, October 15, 22, and 29): Maggie’s super popular intro to knitting class usually sells out fast, so grab your ticket soon and learn the versatile craft that’s been sweeping the globe since approximately 500 CE!
Knitting 102 (Sundays, October 12, 19, and 26): Tubular bind-off? M1R? SSK? Tension? Gauge? If you’ve learned the basics of knitting but are overwhelmed by everything else there is to learn, this three-week class will get you K2TOGing like a pro.
Knit the Halibut Mittens (Thursdays, October 30, November 6 and 23): learn colorwork knitting the aquatic way with the viral Halibut mitten pattern! Maggie’s class will teach you the basics of chart reading and mitten construction until you’ll be getting along swimmingly. If you’d prefer a less fishy approach, check out the Flower Mittens class coming this December.
Knit a Cloud Sweater (Tuesdays, November 11, 18, December 2 and 9): in this class you’ll have your choice of making the Cloud Blouse or Cloud Sweater - two popular and size-inclusive patterns from PetiteKnit. Even if you’ve never made a sweater before, Maggie will walk you through every step over the course of this four-session class, finishing just in time for the really cold weather.
And don’t forget that we still have Craft Night every Monday from 6 to 8 - it’s been a really fun crowd with new faces every week for the last few sessions and I hope to see you there soon!
