Dover Shores News - September
DOVER SHORES NEWS, September 1, 2021
HAPPY LABOR DAY TO ALL OF OUR DOVER SHORES’ FAMILIES! COMING ALSO THIS MONTH – BACK TO SCHOOL, AND THE FIRST DAY OF FALL.
So as we adjust to all of these changes, here is the latest update from the Dover Shores HOA Board about what is going on in our community:
DOVER SHORES HOA GENERAL MEETING: SEPTEMBER 21, 2021
The Dover Shores’ next bi-monthly HOA meeting will be held Tuesday September 21 via Zoom. The general session with homeowner participation begins at 5PM. It was decided to once again have our meeting by Zoom instead of in person in view of the Delta surge continuing. Also, a lot more of our residents find it easier to attend by Zoom, and we want to encourage everyone to come to our HOA meetings. Although we certainly anticipate we will be back to in-person meetings very soon, for now below is the meeting link so PLEASE JOIN US:

Meeting ID: 858 0969 6325
Passcode: 181923
Some potential Agenda items include:
An update on bids for major improvements to North Star Beach, including a discussion on whether we can move forward first on a pickle ball court/basketball court. The discussion will also address concerns on noise levels generated by those activities and the impact on surrounding neighbors, and how to deal with those issues.
An update on bids for an additional 5 boat rack at Fisherman’s Beach
An update on bids for hiring on on-call security firm
The status of discussions with the City of Newport Beach on what steps if any we can take to prevent trespassers from coming to Fisherman’s Beach from the adjoining public beach
A discussion of the upcoming Election as well as the Annual Meeting, and whether it will be in person or via Zoom.
Additionally, as always, at the beginning of the General Meeting all homeowners are welcome to bring up any issues they would like the Board to address.
A MESSAGE FROM SHERRY BILBEISI, HOA PRESIDENT:
MANY THANKS ONCE AGAIN TO OUR SOCIAL CHAIR AND OUR BBQ HOSTS!
We are coming to the close of what started as an almost “normal” summer. A lot of that normalcy has come from being able to once again enjoy our Tuesday Night BBQs. They have been very popular this year, and also very much like old times. On behalf of all our Tuesday Night Regulars, I would like to extend a very big thank you to all of our host families this year who arranged for us to enjoy wonderful food and each other’s company every Tuesday for the past 2 months.
Our August thank-yous go to the Finlays and Koyls, who, on August 3, finally used the BBQ grill and treated us to tri-tip and great salads; on August 10 Brian and Emily Leech hosted our group; then on August 17 the Doria, Moore, and Friis families gave us a Taste of Italy; August 24 was a wonderful Mediterranean dinner provided by Ray Bahktar and family, and finally on August 31 our last BBQ was hosted by Gail Jones, Jan New, Barbara Parcham, Edwina Broderick, and Michele Sciarra.
And an especially Huge Thank You goes to Tate Luesebrink who made it all possible by volunteering to be our Social Chair! We are very grateful that he stepped up and made it happen. Mark your calendar and save the date for our end of the year Fiesta Party organized by Tate Luesebrink and Esther Fine on Sunday September 12, 4-7PM. In a change from previous Fiesta's, we are making this Fiesta a family event, so CHILDREN ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. Hope to see you all there!
A MESSAGE FROM BHE MANAGEMENT CORPORATION:
Elections Are Coming!!!
Thanks to the new Civil Code requirements, it should not come as a surprise to anyone that the election is scheduled for October 19th! We sent out the call for candidates, the 60 day “pre-election” notice, and in September we will be sending out the ballots. We surely hope that we have a great “turnout” for the voting!
This year we will have three (3) seats up for election. As you saw on the 60-day notice, we will have only one (1) name on the ballot – Mr. Steve Briggs – who is an incumbent member.
We also now have a Write-In candidate – Mr. Tate Luesebrink! The candidate statement from Steve Briggs will be included with the election notice, however those same new Civil Code guidelines do not permit us to include Tate Luesebrink’s statement. So anyone wanting to vote for Tate will have to write in his name on the ballot. Here are their statements:
Steve Briggs “My wife Linda and I have lived in Dover Shores since 1987. I have practiced law in Orange County since 1971. I have served as a Director for our Association for 3 years. My goals as a Director are fiscal responsibility and a role for the Board and the Association that is both appropriate as needed while also not overbearing or intrusive.”
Tate Luesebrink “I was born and raised in Newport Beach, attended Mariners school, Ensign and Corona del Mar HS. As a Newport Beach native here I am raising my family in the community and want to help better the neighborhood.”
If you have any questions when you receive your ballot, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your continued support!!

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH NEWS:
One of our newest Board Members, Joan Lutz, has taken over Neighborhood Watch activities in our Community. She has many great ideas for preparing our homes, educating homeowners about crime in Newport Beach and establishing a mechanism to reach homeowners during emergencies. Here is some additional information from Joan:
The events of Saturday night Aug. 14 have reminded us of the importance of securing our homes, and having an active Neighborhood Watch group. That night, we desperately wanted to contact everyone on Galaxy and Santiago to stay inside, and turn on your outside lights – Dangerous men are on foot right here in Dover Shores. But we had no way to contact all of you!! So in the coming weeks we will be working on a neighborhood contact list to cover Dover Shores, which we can talk more about when we get together in a few weeks:
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEETING ON HOME SECURITY
LARRY’S BEACH THURSDAY SEPT. 30TH at 6:00 PM

She will also be giving tips on bicycle safety – particularly E-Bikes. She’s the expert on security systems, light sensors, where to put motion sensors, gate and door locks, safes, tight timers, double cylinder locks, fake TVs and all things HOME SECURITY !! Please come join us so we can better protect our homes, our families and ourselves.
NBPD NEWS: Always call NBPD if you are of suspicious of some person, or vehicle. They really don’t mind! Their number for non-emergencies of this type is 949-644-3717. Our new area officer is Sgt. Brad Miller. We hope he will be able to join us at our meeting. Come meet him and always wave when you see an officer nearby.
We are all very grateful for the fine work of all the NBPD, NBFD, CMPD, OC Sheriff Dept., 3 helicopters and 2 canine units for their efforts to find three criminals in DS. We are also grateful that LT Gary Clemente was able to join us at our August 17 BBQ a and update us on the theft, apprehension, and other details he could share relating to the August 14 incident. He also emphasized to call 949-644-3717 when you see something suspicious. I have spoken to Chief Jon Lewis and Deputy Joe Cartwright to express our heartfelt appreciation for these professionals. They were delighted to hear from Dover Shores and are anxious to remain close with our community. HATS OFF TO NBPD !!! THANK YOU!!!!
CERT UPDATES:
Fires
As we are entering the peak of fire season, a reminder to check your go-bag and make sure that critical documents and computer files are backed up off-site for the chance (admittedly remote) that we would need to evacuate.
If you are interested in learning the current status of fires around the state, we recommend
the CAL FIRE site: fire.ca.gov/incidents
For the latest local information, we recommend the Orange Country Fire Authority Site: ocfa.org. Their PIO is very active on social media such as Twitter: @OCFireAuthority. For an incident like the Chaparral Fire, a hash tag such as #ChaparralFire usually appears quickly on social media and you can get all the latest posts by clicking on the hashtag link. And, of course, make sure you are registered for phone alerts at AlertOC.
COVID Information Toolkit
The Orange County Health Authority has recently updated their site with a page that contains resources and links to reliable information in multiple languages: COVID Information Toolkit. Their Dashboard is still the best source for the COVID situation in OC.
COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
The Newsletter Team could use a little extra help. Our webmaster/technical co-chair, Jim Gula, is looking for another person in our Dover Shores Community to join the Committee who is is familiar with Markdown and has other technical skills. Producing the newsletter, formatting it, and getting it out through our distribution service needs just a little time and effort to learn how to do it, and having another person with those skills on our committee would be a big help. So if you are interested, please contact Jim by responding to this Newsletter.
THANK YOU!
Finally
Please let your neighbors know how to contact us at board@dovershoreshoa.org if they are not part of our email list and would like to join. Or please forward this email to them. Our goal is to reach every Dover Shores neighbor.
Note that past newsletters are always available at our archives.
