Slope News
HOA President Tim Hawke recently shared the following information from a geologist regarding the slope failure:
Regarding the News at Dover Shores – the March 3, 2023 failure at the red-tagged1930 Galaxy correlates to old fill slope and a deep network of on-slope storm drains (and its backfill). I have made multiple inspection of the landslide. Sergio has also been on-site (the three Galaxy sites) since the failure.
The recent slope failure at 1930 Galaxy matches a prior failure at the very same location around 1973. Then and now, the failures align with the limits of fill. Back in the 1960’s (and again in the 1970’s) contractors were likely unable to grade a shear key in the lagoonal (wet) toe of the slope (Upper Back Bay with tidal fluctuations). The failure is due to collapse of the fill (not an issue of structural geology).
Yes the 10th rainstorm this year accelerated the movement. Water is the triggering mechanism to all soil movement.
