Dover Shores News - April
DOVER SHORES NEWS, April 1, 2024

Happy Spring to all our Dover Shores Neighbors! It’s so wonderful to see flowers blooming around our beautiful neighborhood. Here is the latest update from the Dover Shores HOA Board about what is going on in our community as we head into April:
DOVER SHORES HOA GENERAL MEETING March 19, 2024
The Dover Shores bi-monthly HOA meeting was held March 19, 2024 via Zoom. Ongoing business of the committees including the following:
- Beach Committee – We are excited to let homeowners know we are replacing the playground at Larry’s Beach! Repairs have proven difficult if not impossible on the current structure so it’s time to say our goodbye! The board reviewed quotes and decided to move forward with a new structure that is expected to be in place before this summer. In other beach news, the revised Beach Reservation Policy was also voted on and approved by the board. The policy was mailed out to all HOA members in January and received no opposition.
- Landscape Committee - We are conducting landscape renovation on the slope along Mariners and Galaxy. In addition, we will be planting colorful flowers along both beach areas. Spring Renovation in Dover Shores!!!
- Social Committee – It’s already time to start thinking about summer BBQs! See the flyer below and mark your calendar now! This summer we are using a slightly different format for the BBQs. Rather than having homeowners host the BBQ, all BBQs will be catered and hosted by the social committee.

A Message from BHE Management Corporation:
Hello Daylight Savings Time! What a wonderful season to be alive. With all of our yards blooming and growing, please remember to ensure that your trees and plants are growing in your own yard, and not too much in your neighbor’s yard – your neighbors will appreciate it!
We want to thank everyone for having been mindful of sending in your dues in a timely manner – this is very helpful to the Association, and greatly appreciated by your Board of Directors and Management. If for any reason you need a copy of your statement, please don’t hesitate to contact us at the emails/number shown below.
Over the next few days and weeks you will be receiving a number of items in the mail from the Association:
- The first packet you will receive are the revised Dover Shores HOA Beach Policies, as sent to all owners for comment and then adopted during the March 2024 meeting.
-
The next mailing you receive will have several important items:
- Early Nomination Notice - The legislature now allows associations to forego the expense of sending out ballots for voting if (and only if!) the number of candidates is the same or less than the number of positions open. The legislature also requires additional notices to be given, including the Early Nomination Notice.
- Architectural Submittal Clarification – This important piece of information reminds owners of the types of improvements that require architectural approval from the Association, has information about City approvals, and also reminders about the application process (including the importance of in-person meetings with neighbors for Neighbor Awareness signatures!).
- Insurance Disclosure – Our insurance was renewed with no lapse in coverage, and the disclosures will detail the renewal dates, companies with whom the polices are held, as well as the deductibles on each.

CERT – Neighborhood Watch Updates:
Newport Notified replacing Nixle
The NBPD is replacing Nixle with a new service to notify residents of local crimes and emergency situations. The new service is called Newport Notified. You can register to receive alerts by email or text here. Nixle alerts will cease after April 12. Recent alerts from Newport Notified can be viewed here.
Scams Targeting Seniors
The NBPD has good advice on preventing scams and identity theft on their Crime Prevention and Safety Page. They also recommend checking out the Federal FTC site for information on identity theft, frauds and other scams here.
The FBI recently released a bulletin that warned consumers that scammers have begun using live couriers to collect cash or precious metals from victims, often seniors. The scammers pretend to be government officials, financial institutions or tech support (or combinations of these) to convince victims that their accounts had been hacked and send the couriers to "protect" their valuables.
