Dover Shores News
WELCOME TO THE 2nd EDITION OF DOVER SHORES NEWS!
We hope all of you are staying healthy and safe as we make it through this very difficult time. We will continue to reach out to all of our Dover Shores neighbors each month with our newsletter to let you know what is going on in our neighborhood.
We also want to thank all of you who responded so positively with your feedback to our first newsletter. If there is a subject you would like us to cover, or questions you have about anything going on in our community, please let us know by emailing us at board@dovershoreshoa.org, or by simply replying to this email newsletter. We will try to answer your questions each month in our newsletter. Perhaps if there is enough interest, we can start a question and answer section in which our Board members can respond to your questions and comments.
Thank you again from your Communications Committee! Sherry Bilbeisi, Jim Gula, and Cindy Talbott
NEXT HOA MEETING: TUESDAY, May 19, 2020
GENERAL MEETING BEGINS AT 6:00 p.m. All Homeowners are invited to attend and bring any issues, requests or comments they have to the Board’s attention at the start of the meeting during the Homeowners Forum. We will not be having an in-person meeting this month. If you wish to join the video conference meeting at 6:00 p.m., PMP will be emailing General Meeting Agendas around May 15 to all homeowners for whom they have email addresses or you can email the board at board@dovershoreshoa.org for instructions. Notice of the Meeting is also posted each month on the bulletin board at Larry’s Beach, and will also have instructions for joining the video conference.
BEACH COMMITTEE UPDATES:
We recently received preliminary plans from our architect, David George, for improvements to North Star Beach, with improved picnic and recreation areas, and a small bathroom facility. These plans will be discussed at our next Board meeting. We are anxious to finalize plans that we can present to the Dover Shores Community as soon as possible. This has been long overdue and will be a great addition to our community.
FRIENDLY REMINDER TO OUR COMMUNITY:
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT OUR 3 BEACHES – NORTH STAR, LARRY’S AND FISHERMAN’S - REMAIN CLOSED TO ALL UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Dover Shores needs everyone to respect this closure for the safety of our community. As tempting as it might be to pass some time at our beaches, particularly in warmer weather, please do not use your keys to access the beaches for yourselves, your families, or your pets - which in any event are never allowed on the beaches. The beaches are closed, and during this time nothing is being cleaned and sanitized. As soon as the beaches can be safely reopened, we will let you know immediately. THANK YOU.
And in the event they do reopen, we are still taking applications for part-time lifeguards. Details were included in the April edition of Dover Shores News, but if you are interested, please reply to this Newsletter or email board@dovershoreshoa.org.
Thank you from the Beach Committee, Jacquelyn Beauregard Dillman, Dan Converse, Sherry Bilbeisi, and Jodi Cassutt
NEWS FROM THE LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE:
Spring has sprung and we are starting to see our slopes come alive! We are going to be in the process of refreshing the beach landscaping at North Star and Larry’s. This includes installing a new drip system for irrigation and refreshing the plants around the Beaches. It should look beautiful and provide more efficient watering as well.
We have also begun the groundwork for our proposal to refresh our slopes. In working with our landscape professionals Artistic Maintenance, we have identified certain trees (with pink ribbons), which are either dying or have been trimmed beyond their useful life, to be removed and replaced. In addition, we have selected 3 varieties of new, smaller, drought tolerant trees that can be maintained well below our height requirements and can be planted more evenly throughout our slope areas providing better consistency aesthetically and more shade opportunities within the slopes overall.
The replacement trees have been designated with a colored flag. The board will have an opportunity to view the designated trees for removal and those proposed for replacement and will be weighing in at the next meeting. This will be a tremendous improvement in our slopes at a minimal cost.
We hope everyone is staying safe and we will continue to make improvements as the year continues.
Thank you from the Landscape Committee, Julie Patterson, Sue Ashwill, Robin Wright, and Allison Pence
ARCHITECTURE REVIEW COMMITTEE UPDATES:
Greetings from the Architectural Review Committee (ARC). Our goal is to maintain a standard of quality on behalf of your neighborhood association for all Dover Shores residents, while keeping the process manageable and fair for neighbors seeking to improve their property. As we continue to move forward, we are going to be streamlining the application process and redefining the various requirements to achieve ARC approval with an eye toward simplification. The communications will start being much more timely and consistent.
Please keep in mind any plans for modifications to your building, structure, or aesthetics should be submitted to us for review. If it is not something affected by ARC requirements, we will let you know right away. It's better safe than sorry. As an example, an exterior structure was recently rebuilt to existing dimensions, however no application to the ARC was made. The homeowner assumed it was not required. Unfortunately they assumed wrong and it makes things quite difficult for both the homeowner and our committee as to how to proceed. Please make the call (Mike 949-422-2084) - we can prevent a lot of anguish for both residents and the Dover Shores Community Association.
Your Architectural Review Committee - Michael Talbott, Darren Houck and Wathiq Bilbeisi
CERT NEWS:
Do Unto Others: Please make sure that all family members wear face masks when in the community. These measures are to protect others from you! (CDC, CDPH) It is now clear that many people with the virus are asymptomatic yet can still infect others. You may be feeling fine but as you are puffing up that hill you may be shedding virus that can infect everyone you pass. We all want to get our lives back to something closer to normal. Until there is a vaccine, the best way to do that is to drive down the infection rate so that every contact with an infected person can be traced. We all need to do our part.
New Symptoms Observed: The most common COVID-19 symptoms are fever and cough but other less common symptoms include: chills, muscle pain, headaches and sore throat (CDC). If you have any of these symptoms you should consult a physician and if recommended, get tested for COVID-19. If you test positive, you must isolate to limit the spread.
Don't fear the hospital: Admissions to Hoag and other hospitals for serious illnesses like heart attacks and stroke are way down compared to prior to the pandemic. Almost certainly these events are still happening but people are afraid to get them treated. Hoag does a good job of separating COVID-19 patients from others so if you have any symptoms of these high risk conditions, get them checked! Don't die of a heart attack because you fear COVID-19.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD PRESIDENT, TONY KHOURY:
Although the Board has stopped all social activities and closed the 3 beaches, nevertheless please rest assured that when we get information from our state and local officials to relax the stay-at-home policy and social distancing, we will gradually resume our beach and social functions.
Finally
Most of you also receive by mail the magazine Dover Shores Living. Please be sure to read Tony’s letter to our residents each month which includes further information about Board discussions and actions relevant to our community . It’s one more way for us to be able to communicate with all of you.
Please let your neighbors know they can email us at board@dovershoreshoa.org if they are not on our distribution list and would like to join. Or forward this email to them and have them click on the subscribe link. Our goal is to reach every Dover Shores neighbor.
