GALAXY DRIVE UPDATE
Dear Dover Shores Neighbors,
By now, most of you are likely aware that several of our neighbors’ homes have been dramatically impacted by severe slope failure on State-owned property off Galaxy Drive in early March.
Upon hearing of the slope erosion, the HOA Board of Directors promptly held an information-gathering meeting to discuss this terrible event on March 21st. Several community members who own homes on Galaxy attended, including three homeowners whose homes became uninhabitable. The Board of Directors arranged to have a City Council Member (Eric Weigand from district 3, who represents the Dover Shores community) and the Utilities Director for the City of Newport Beach (Mark Vukojevic) attend the meeting to explain what occurred and to respond to any questions.
While the City representatives did a good job of responding to numerous questions regarding the slope erosion event, we requested a follow-up contact within the City for any additional questions our Association members may have. For now, the City requested that all calls regarding this issue go to the Building Department at (949) 644-3200. The calls will then be routed to the correct person or, if said person is unavailable, a return call will be made.
Additionally, the City has provided the historical rough grading plan for Dover Shores from 1968 for anyone to download or review by clicking on the following link:

While we all want to support and assist our neighbors who were impacted by this event, we need to clarify that the slopes that failed are not part of the Association, and the Association does not maintain or have any responsibility for the failed slopes. As a result, the Association plays no role in the remediation efforts.
We greatly appreciate the input of our neighbors and the City who brought this terrible event to everyone’s attention. Thank you, everyone, too, for the support and care that you have shown our neighbors who have been immediately impacted in such a devasting manner. We encourage you to reach out to the City for information about what you can do if you are impacted by this event or if you would like information on what you can do to determine whether or not you might have an issue with your slopes.
