DOVER SHORES NEWS
WELCOME TO OUR INAUGURAL COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER!
Welcome Neighbors!
One of the goals of the Dover Shores HOA Board this year is to keep all of you better informed of what is going on in our community.
To that end, we will be emailing our Newsletter to you – Dover Shores News – about once a month – or more often if there is something you need to be informed about immediately.
In the current strange, self-isolation times in which we are now living, it’s more important than ever to stay connected. If it can’t be in person right now, then this hopefully will help make us feel like we’re keeping in touch with our neighbors.
Thank you from the Communications Committee!

HERE’S WHAT’S NEW FROM OUR BEACH COMMITTEE
We are taking the first much-needed steps of improving North Star Beach.
- Our HOA architect has been asked to draw up plans for an enlarged cement pad for new picnic tables, a possible shaded area, and a new BBQ facility similar to Larry’s Beach with a kitchen buffet island with sink and gas hook-up.
- Part of the plans will also include a small bathroom facility, improvements to the basketball court, and a possible pickle ball court
- The budget for this is under discussion and will be presented to the HOA board and the Dover Shores community, from whom we welcome input and ideas.

ADDENDUM:
The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the indefinite closing of both Larry’s Beach and North Star Beach to HOA events. The Children’s Easter Event has been cancelled, and beach reservations for private parties are not being taken for the protection of the Dover Shores community. We will endeavor to keep you informed as soon as this situation changes and normal use of the beaches resumes.

HELP NEEDED FOR OUR SOCIAL COMMITTEE:
We are planning ahead – just in case Larry’s Beach opens for our regular BBQ schedule - we are in NEED of one or more neighbors to volunteer to Chair the Social Committee. The Social Chair(s) oversee the host families each week, purchase supplies for the summer – paper goods, water, etc., and help make our summer BBQs fun evenings. Chairing this Committee would be a tremendous help to our Board and would give you a chance to be involved in our Dover Shores Community without having a Board commitment.
PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT AND HELP US OUT IF YOU CAN. TWO OR MORE FRIENDS CAN ALSO DO IT TOGETHER. WE WANT TO KEEP THE BBQS GOING. THEY ARE SUCH A GREAT PART OF OUR HOA. SO PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS NEWSLETTER BY EMAIL IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
Thank you from the Social Committee Liaison,
Sue Ashwill
UPDATES FROM OUR LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE:
This year we are hoping to accomplish many things with Dover Shores landscaping:
- First, we will be revamping the Beach frontage beds both at Larry’s Beach and North Star Beach. The planting will not only look beautiful, but will be easier to maintain, be more drought tolerant.
- The next task we are addressing is the concern for many trees on the slopes throughout the neighborhood which are dead, dying, or have been trimmed or topped beyond their useful life due to view concerns. We will be replacing these trees with smaller, more drought tolerant varieties. They can be maintained at a lower height, and will be slow growing and manageable, as well as provide beautiful foliage and protection for our natural wildlife.
- We are looking ahead to the future in regard to water usage hoping to test our first Smart Controller System which works off of our existing valves, but uses a satellite sensor that constantly checks weather conditions. The controller only activates when dry conditions exist and delivers only the water that is necessary. Saving on water expenses is a huge plus for our community, and we will continue to work on providing solutions to make sure we are efficient and maintaining healthy, beautiful green space in the process.
We will continue to address any issues in our slopes in our Monthly walk through meetings. We are here to address any concerns you may have.
