It's been 43 years!
Hi,
I must apologize for not sending any email updates since 2020.
I hope that this email finds you well, and that you’re continuing to thrive in the weird world we find ourselves in these days.
In fact, I can imagine that you might have completely forgotten that you’d subscribed to a email newsletter for The .NET Core Podcast.
What’s Been Happening?
In the time since my last email (May 18th, 2020) there have been 47 episodes released; we’ve gone from season two to season five; we’ve started a Discord server (more on that in a moment); and we’ve hit 500,000 downloads.
I’m continually blown away by the fact that the audience for the show is large enough that it’s been able to smash through 500,000 downloads. And whilst I wasn’t looking - I literally found out about the stats by accident this morning, as I had the stats loaded in a browser tab, and it auto updated as I moved through my open tabs.
Other Shows That I’ve Been On
Since the last email update, I’ve been doing a whole bunch of guest appearances on a bunch of different podcasts. Most of the shows I’ve guested on are not in the development space, too. You can find a whole bunch (but not all) of them here.
Here are links to some of my favourite guest spots:
- Retail Leadership where I talked about advice I would give to my younger self
- Dreamcast Years where my brother and I talked through gaming in the year 2008
- The Gamerhood Podcast where I was asked to share my experiences of being a video gamer and a father
- The Creator Experience where I was asked to share my podcasting story and advice
I also got together with my friends Zac and James, and started another podcast (because having two wasn’t enough, right). The podcast we started is called Tabs and Spaces, and it’s all about software development but is presented with a twist. You’ll have to go check it out to find out what the twist is, by the way.
There’s a Discord Now?!
I haven’t been fantastically public at advertising that there’s a Discord server for the show yet, but that’s because I’m still figuring out how it all works and getting rules, roles, and such set up.
But there’s a public Discord server for the show , which you should totally join!
There are some folks there already, and Patrons of the show get a special role and badge (so if you’re a Patron, make sure you connect your Discord account). We’re sharing links, news, and advice. So do consider joining.
Oh, I also record the podcast there too. So if you’d like to be on the show, you’ll need to be a member of the Discord server.
The Future of the Mailing List
It won’t have escaped you that it’s been a long time since I sent out a new email to you.
With that in mind, I’m thinking of shutting down the email newsletter. My main goal with everything I do online is to do what I can to protect people’s privacy, and because of the mailing list I have a large number of people’s email addresses.
I’d recommend joining the Discord server for the show as I’m still figuring out what to do with the mailing list. But if I do get rid of the email newsletter, I’ll give you plenty of notice.
I’d like to thank you for personally supporting the show by subscribing to the email newsletter.
Take care of yourself, because you’re awesome.
