you can't just shove someone off a roof
Oh, it's good to see you!
Kelly, you might say to me, are you still living and breathing Uncharted 4? I am, I would reply. I am, a bit. I took a break or two, however. I replayed Uncharteds 1-3, for example, before diving back into 4. Very healthy.
I also went downtown to hang out with a boat.

The Hokule’a, a Hawaiian double-hulled canoe, has traveled a long, long way over the course of 2 years now, and we were lucky enough to catch it in D.C. It was fun to explore the boat itself, as well as talk to the crew members, whose goal is also to spread the word about global warming. To paraphrase our guide, when you live on an island, you don’t have the option of ignoring rising oceans. The canoe is currently on the American East Coast leg of its journey, and I encourage you to catch it if it comes your way (looks like it will be in New York City next).

There’s been some truly delightful fanart since Star Wars Episode VII came out, and recently some of the most delightful has been from Michael Firman, who has been endeavoring to draw a Rey a day.

I’ve seen an overwhelming amount of fanart for Finn and Poe (I get it, I want them to kiss, too), and Kylo Ren, of course, but much less for Rey. So a project to draw as much Rey as possible seems the worthiest of things.

His style is interesting and unique, and he totally nails Daisy Ridley’s fantastically mobile face.

And I love, love his coloring!
He’s even provided this handy guide, for fans who want to draw Rey themselves:

If you’re on tumblr, give him a follow and partake in many Reys.
Also:

I saw The Nice Guys, which was entertaining but felt a lot like Shane Black trying to recapture that old Kiss Kiss Bang Bang magic and not really succeeding. But Ryan Gosling was great, and the sets and costumes spot-on (it’s 1970s noir). I also saw Love and Friendship, which was excellent. Very funny, an Austen adaptation of a different sort. A+ hats.

Steven Universe came back from its long hiatus with an arc called “In Too Deep,” and it’s reminded me why a kids cartoon show is easily the best thing on television. This arc has specifically dealt with the gem cluster that threatened the Earth, and Peridot and Lapis getting used to their new planet home.

I read The Red Virgin and the Vision of Utopia, by Mary S. Talbot and Bryan Talbot, a graphic biography of Louise Michel, a French feminist and revolutionary in the 19th Century. I knew nothing about her going in, and the way they framed her story with her fascination with utopian fiction was really interesting.

I replayed all 4 Uncharted games, to fully experience Nathan Drake’s narrative arc again, was reminded just how much fun those games are. The first is still one of the most frustrating games I’ve played, ever, but Uncharted 2 stands as one of the very best. I played the board game Betrayal at House on the Hill with some friends, and loved it. I got to be a murderous plant-wielding ghost.

Garbage (yes, that Garbage) released a new single, and it is great.

The Great Wakandan Prank War by mikkimouse Civil War, Sam/Bucky. Sam and Bucky pull increasingly elaborate pranks on each other and soon everyone is involved.
untitled by agathabird Teen Wolf, Sterek, sci-fi/pirate/coffee shop AU. This seems to have begun as a challenge to write something that combined several frequently-seen alternate universe settings, and the result is magnificent. I want a hundred thousand more words.
live in peace like this by gloss Star Wars TFA, Finn/Poe. This is mostly a Finn character study, which is maybe my favourite kind of character study. He takes stock of what he has.
I Could Walk Out, But I Won’t by napricot Civil War, Sam/Bucky. Bucky gets tattoos, Sam goes along.
Lastly
I don’t live a life that’s conducive to podcast-listening, but I used to, and back in those days my favourite was Stuff You Missed in History Class. The hosts, both women, apparently get accused quite often of spending too much time on women’s history. Fed up, they decided to break the numbers down, once and for all.
Sports writer Joe Posnanski took his daughter to see Hamilton, and wrote about the experience. It’s a beautiful piece about being a parent, but it also accurately captures what seeing Hamilton is actually like:
“You might be aware that Thomas Jefferson really didn’t look like Prince and he wasn’t much of a hip hop performer. He was a Virginia slaveowner. But by the time the second act begins, no, this is Thomas Jefferson. It feels exactly right. This is the closest experience I’ve ever had to that feeling inside a dream. You know: In the dream, you are talking with your best friend only he’s actually a grizzly bear wearing a stethoscope, and you’re inside a car that’s not exactly a car and you’re parked inside the Taj Mahal but it’s orange and looks a bit like old Shea Stadium … and none of it seems out of place. None of it seems unfamiliar. It doesn’t just make perfect sense, it feels perfect. There are goosebumps detonating because, my God, look, that’s Thomas Jefferson.”
