will your god accept me in my black and white?
Hi y'all!
How’s February treating you so far? I took a little two-day jaunt down to Richmond, where I saw some family and friends, wreslted with several dogs, visited my favourite museum, and bought a truly gigantic sweater. A good trip, all-around. It’s nice to get out of your life for a day or so every so often.

Dog Thing

my aunt’s dog Bug, who is the size of a horse and wants to constantly be handing you slobbery items. i love him deeply.

Mixed Media

I love Star Wars. That’s not a secret, I’m pretty open about it. I’ve loved Star Wars since I first saw the original trilogy, during a snow day in the early nineties, when the movies just happened to be playing in a marathon on tv and my dad, desperate for peace, sat my brother and me down in front of them and demanded we stay there. We stayed there. In those days, loving Star Wars was a simple thing: you just watched the movies over and over. The Expanded Universe existed, and I was vaguely aware of it, but it wasn’t super accessible. The prequels happened, and I saw them, but I’ve always found Darth Vader boring so they were never going to be for me.
Nowadays, we’re drowning in Star Wars. There’s the main trilogy, there are the side story movies, there’s this mysterious new Rian Johnson trilogy, the other mysterious new trilogy (why), there are books on books, comics, cartoons, you name a media and there is a way to consume Star Wars there. And it’s too much! It’s way too much. And I don’t want there to ever come a day when I don’t love Star Wars, even a little, so I’ve become picky about the corners of Star Wars I get invested in, so I don’t get overwhelmed. I have three Star Wars loves and they are: the main trilogy, Star Wars Rebels, and Doctor Aphra.

Chelli Aphra was introduced in the Darth Vader comic, which I read briefly and then got bored of (villains: boring!). She’s an archaeologist, a thief, and a wonderful disaster. She is frequently in the company of two droids who are basically the evil versions of R2-D2 and C3PO.

She has her own comic now, which has crossed over with the main Star Wars comic, so she’s interacted with all the big characters, but I think she’s best when she’s on her own. She’s also very gay.

She’s a mess. I love her. The Doctor Aphra comic has been collected into two trade paperbacks as of this week, and I HIGHLY recommend it. You can also read it digitally through comixology. If you read it, please tell me immediately so that I can yell at you about Aphra and the murder droids.

I have been eagerly awaiting Jen Wang’s The Prince and the Dressmaker and finally got to read it this week. I was bowled over by it. It’s about a seamstress who just wants a chance to make her own designs, and the cross-dressing prince who comes to employ her. It’s a beautiful story of achieving dreams and becoming the person you most want to be. I loved it.

I’ve really been enjoying the current arc of The Adventure Zone, called Amnesty. It’s based in the county in West Virginia where I lived while doing Americorps, which is very fun for me. It’s about monsters and cryptids and feels very Gravity Falls. You can start here, if that sounds cool to you. I’ve also been catching up on my friends’ podcast Rookery Bros, wherein they watch episodes of iconic 90s cartoon Gargoyles and then talk about them. It’s a simple formula, but Kevin and Coleman are so charming and funny that it feels like you’re hanging with two pals. I listened to it all the way to Richmond and back, and laughed for much of that time.

The rest of my life is Breath of the Wild.

Fics I Shouted About
the capri sex-swap au that literally noone was asking for by nikanndros // Captive Prince, Damen/Laurent, rule 63 au. If the other brother had been killed, and also Damen & Laurent were ladies. This is perfect and I want so much more of it.
ready at any moment to seize the moment by suitablyskippy // Mob Psycho 100, Mob/Teru. Mob worries about his lack of kissing experience. Teru has been waiting for this. I saw this as a comic by auro-cyanide first, which was equally delightful.
Pygmalion AU by nikanndros // Captive Prince, modern au. Laurent is a sculpture student who’s masterpiece is too perfect.
untitled by dadvans // Yuri!!! On Ice, immortal beings au. I love that rather than having to think about characters aging and dying in their natural time, the YOI fandom has collectively decided on the alternative that they are immortal beings of great and terrible power. You know, like you do.
Fake Courting AU Parts 1 and 2 by nikanndros // Captive Prince, Damen/Laurent. Laurent plots to pretend that Damen has broken his heart to get a break from arranged marriage talk. It backfires.
Anxiety Pyjamas

Lastly
That’s it! I love you!!
