Sitting in the Mud, Watching the Sky
Hi friends,
Not much new to report this week—no fresh poems, no new submissions (yet). I did get a rejection earlier in the week, which I’m trying to take in stride. I’ll be sending more work out soon. Each rejection drives me to submit more.
Even when I’m not actively writing, life keeps offering me stories. Events are happening. Weather’s shifting. Conversations unfold. I may not be recording them in ink right now, but they’re happening, waiting to be remembered.
It’s a strange comfort: knowing that inspiration doesn’t vanish when the words stop. It just hides in the background, molding the clay into ideas.
🪶 Spotlight Poem: In the Mud
This week’s spotlight poem is all about stillness, surrender, and the quiet power of being.
You can read the full piece on my blog:
👉 In the Mud
Here’s a small excerpt:
Sitting naked in the mud
Rain falling all around
Stream-lets carrying the dirt from my body
Shivering from the cold biting wind...
Sometimes we sit with the silence, not because we’ve failed to move, but because we’ve chosen to feel. I think that’s where the next poem begins.
Thanks for sticking with me through the quiet weeks, too. I appreciate you.
Until next time,
Donnie
