Quiet Mornings and Cat Feet
Hello friends,
It’s the beginning of what I hope will be a calm and restful week here. I’m off work and taking a staycation. There are no grand adventures planned, just some rest, a few possible day-trips, and time to breathe.
On the writing front, I’ve been making progress on the 25th Anniversary Edition of Broken Images. The original file has been lost for years, but text capture tools have been incredibly helpful in reconstructing it. It’s been a slow process, but a rewarding one. It is like I am reconnecting with an old friend. Some of these poems have stayed with me and are still familiar. Some surprised me and I barely remember writing them. I guess that might be expected after twenty-five years.
✍️ Writing Update
Editing and rebuilding Broken Images for its anniversary edition
Remaining open to, and capturing any inspirations that happen during this week off
I have two drafted collections that need editing and this week might be the week to start on that.
🐾 Spotlight Poem: “Cat Feet”
A softer, more lighthearted piece this time—a reminder to savor the small comforts and shared stillness that make life bearable.
Cat Feet
The soft bright morning
Is muddled
By dream interfering cat feet
My sheets stretch across me
As the kitty steps along my bed
I lay still
Waiting as he finds
A place that is warm and safe
He explores slowly and intently
Lying her for a second
Then moving on
Finally he finds current warmth
And temporary security
He stretches and coils himself
He closes his eyes
And I close mine
And we both sleep
Until the morning is finished
Thank you for joining me on this creative journey.
Here’s to quiet mornings, soft paws, and finding peace where we can.
Until next time,
Donnie
