Soon after sending out newsletter #1, Jon Neher of Regina, SK, heeded the call for engaged and enthusiastic Canadian music fans to step up and contribute to DOMINIONATED. Jon has been following the blog since its inception as well as our spiritual predecessor,
Quick Before It Melts.
"I’ve always appreciated the variety of artists that DOMINIONATED has given a platform to," he says, emphasizing that he especially appreciates the depth of thought that goes into the reviews. "Artists put a lot of time and energy into their creations, so I think it’s important that there are platforms encouraging listeners to dialogue with music more. This was one of the reasons I chose to write my first piece on Lucas Charlie Rose’s
GENDERF*CKBOI. It was immediately clear how much work went into the record, and that Rose had so much he wanted to say to listeners. The power music has to make us listen and
feel something is special that I hope I can share with as many people as possible."
We continue to work towards recruiting a diverse community of contributors from across the country, so if you know someone who's looking for a place to share their views on Canadian music, please direct them to our easy-to-use, impossible-to-screw-up
contributor's application.
Thanks to everyone who downloaded and subscribed to
The DOMINIONATED Podcast. By all accounts, the first episode was well-received and lived up to the (entirely fabricated by us) hype and anticipation, so Mac and Geoff went and done another. If you haven't already heard what new music's got us rubbing our hands together in anticipation for 2018, please check out the latest edition of the podcast on iTunes or PodBean. I hear that subscribing is a big help in getting the word out about the podcast, but so does rating and commenting. So if you like what you hear, we'd love to get a thumbs up from you.
So the whole point of a having a newsletter on top of the blog is to offer something you can't get over at dominionated.ca, right? And what we've got to give is music: tons of it, actually, from talented artists across the country who submit their work through our online submission form. There's often more great music coming in every month than we could post about, so rather than let it all go unheard and unrecognized, we've put together an excellent playlist of our favourite submissions on
Playmoss (because many of these tunes are not yet available on Spotify).
We're calling it our
Mailbag Mixtape, and sharing it exclusively with you first, but please, don't keep all the fun for yourself. Feel free to share it with your closest friends and relations, and all those people you can't stand IRL but who keep liking your Facebook shares and always make random comments about how good you're looking in photos, even when it's obvious those pictures are way old.
