Week 9, 2024: The Vibes Are Off
Hello internet friends,
this week let's start with this lovely obituary to TinyLetter. Those of you who get these notes by email know that this was the service I used to say hello to you. When I had the glorious (more on that later) idea to turn my weeknotes into a new version of these little updates, my first instinct was to use Tinyletter again. Alas, that was pretty much around the time MailChimp decided to discontinue the service, so now here we are, using Buttondown instead.
And something feels a bit off.
Don't get me wrong - Buttondown is fine. It's doing what it says it does. But that's about it. On TinyLetter it actually felt like I was writing an email to friends with things I found online and that I liked to share. That's gone.
But maybe that's on me - maybe turning my weeknotes, which by itself also grew out of my /now page into a new way to reach out to friends who are not reading my blog by sending them out via email was misguided. Maybe my unease mostly comes from the fact that it mixes two slightly different mediums (the blog and email archive) on one page. Who knows. And frankly: who cares?
Onwards.
This guy built a Lego train for his cats and it's glorious. The build process is pretty fun if you're into that kind of thing and then there's the little problem of getting two cats to actually use the train.
If you're a person of a certain age - so roughly my age plus/minus a few years - you're probably well aware of the musical masterpiece "Freestyler" by the Bomfunk MCs. But did you ever wonder what it is about? This person did: An in-depth analysis of the lyrics to 'Freestyler' by Bomfunk MCs
Take care and see you next week
