Week 42, 2024: Double Header
Hello internet friends,
Another week is over and oh boy, am I ready for a couple of weeks that aren't regular work weeks.
Or maybe just for a few weeks where I don't read the internet all that much. I think that can be arranged.
~~
Of course the main thing on the internet was the whole whole WP Kerkuffle. I really feel sorry for the people who are really caught up in it, especially those who just joined Automattic. Not a pleasant place to be in.
Ironically enough my work is extremely WP-focused at the moment, including creating WP plugins for clients. Once these things are in a releasable state, we'll have to talk to them about alternative distribution methods. Fun times!
Meanwhile I haven't done any progress on whatever will replace WP here on this website. I think the fact that I seriously looked into the current state of Drupal might show you how desperate I am. (In the end, I'll probably take the code of dominik.photos, rename the "photos" table and be done with it. It already does 90% of what I need it to.)

More weeknotes meta! I added a whole bunch of meta-blabla to the version of the weeknotes that I sent out by email last week and I got a surprising amount of feedback.
A whole bunch of people unsubscribed, which is basically what I told them to do - I know they have this blog in their RSS reader (and I have theirs) so they're getting everything double anyway. So, hello, RSS folks!
Some people said they prefer the emails because they've given up on RSS. On the one hand: fair enough. On the other hand: oh, come on. Give it another go!
In the end I'll probably send out those notes that are longer - like this one today - and little summary mails for the more boring weeks.
And I got the real-life feedback that my one test post in my Instagram stories was the first time they've seen my blog at all and that they'd read the weeknotes if only I posted them to Instagram as well. Great. More work.
Also my cousin told me to record myself reading them as a podcast and oh boy, even more work. (This is probably not going to happen.)
~~
Anyway, I'll leave the internet on the big screen computer behind for a few days, so you folks better behave yourselves!
Take care, Toodles!
