Week 25, 2024: Friend-Shaped
Hello internet friends,
This one is going to be a calm one - unlike the last two weeks I didn't go anywhere. I went to a WordPress meetup, though, which was pretty interesting. And that even though I have very mixed feelings about WordPress at the moment. (Mostly mixed between frustration and anger, but you know. Still mixed. Maybe worth a blog post in the future.)
An article that starts with the sentence "This is an intriguing question if you decide to take it seriously." can't be all that bad. So yeah, this one is worth a read: ‘If Not Friend, Why Friend-Shaped?’ A Beary Scientific Investigation
I'm one of those weirdos who tends to install new devices from scratch instead of using some older device's backup. And one of the first apps I install on a new phone tends to be OwnTracks - it's a very nerdy location tracker thing and it works very well for me. And this week the project celebrated their eleventh birthday, congratulations!
(And at some point I'll manage to get around to learn MQTT. The HTTP support is great but it feels a bit like it is not the proper way to use it.)
Bellingcat, the "open-source intelligence journalism group," is super intriguing and properly cyberpunky. This interview with their founder is as interesting as expected.
Thanks for reading, I'll flop back onto my couch and watch planes at Sydney airport - what else to do on another grey and rainy sunday?
Take care, toodles!
