CUSA Is Breaking Up Badly
This afternoon USM, ODU, and Marshall announced they were leaving the league this summer. It was long-rumored to be coming and the three programs/universities leaked and pressured the rest of the league to allow their departure much earlier than agreed upon.
You might recall the league's statement back on January 20, 2022:
"Conference USA acknowledges reports of three of our members prematurely departing. We fully expect everyone to follow our bylaws and honor their contractual obligations through the 2022-23 academic year. All fourteen members will continue to be eligible for conference championships and the postseason opportunities Conference USA provides.”
Is 14-months reasonable notice? Sure, I think so. My opinion does not matter too much as all 14-league members agreed to this bylaws when it was time to decide this. It reminds me a little of UIC complaining about not being eligible for the post-season when apparently they were the ones that suggested this provision in the first place.
